Description

  1. The first moment Milo stared into Twinkle’s blue, bug-eyed face, held her tiny, newborn frame, and felt her tiny hoof paw at his chin, he fell for her ‘cute’ charade like a fly on spider silk. Every visit, Milo couldn’t resist peeking in the crib and attempt to communicate with the babbling foal about his newly discovered species of mushroom, or how he saw a grasshopper drove that morning. Unfortunately, Twinkle only ever responded with raspberries, cutting their talks short. Once she could squeak simple words, she took advantage of ‘up’ to persuade Milo to lift her from her prison bars and let her scribble beside him as he drew or chew on the chess pieces he and Rocky were using, much to the colt’s chagrin. When she grew old enough to walk outside by herself, Milo revealed to her the wonders of the insect world, and while the four-year-old found it more fascinating than the bugger dripping from her nose, she only one bug caught her attention: butterflies. Butterflies everywhere. Thank’s to Petri’s Disney-Princess-like power of coaxing a kaleidoscope of butterflies to appear, Twinkle could try to catch, eat, lick, and pet them to her heart’s content. Of course, nothing last’s forever, and before Petri could blink, an obnoxiously loud, hyperactive, pushy, manipulative doppelgänger replaced the adorable, innocent little filly he knew. Although Milo barely spent any time with this new version of Twinkle, they never really lost their special connection, and every so once in a while, they’ll pick a sunny day to catch a butterfly or two- for old times sake.

2. While Milo isn’t exactly what you’d call ‘best buds’ with his older cousins, Marzipan and Caramel, in a way they’re like older sisters to him- and not just because of age. Out of the two, Milo gets along better with Marzy, mostly because of the special treats she alone bakes for him. Sometimes he’ll even play the ‘assistant chef’ and spend the afternoon with her experimenting and discovering which dishes taste better with mushroom. In Mito’s book that would be all of them, to which Marzy just smiles and nods as she forces the unholy concoction down her throat for her cousin’s sake. On the bright side, he also enjoys baking edible sugar centipedes and pill bugs that are easier to swallow. But whatever Milo chooses to bake doesn’t matter to her, so long as he’s happy- she’s happy. Caramel on the other hoof is the opposite of ‘fun cousin’ Marzipan. Her habit of pointing out how his bath in the pond before he came didn’t really wash away his sweaty, muddy smell, or how his tendency to bring ants into the kitchen for a snack isn’t something ponies do, keeps him on edge when she’s around. The fact that Milo’s a pony pleaser also doesn’t help much. Of course, that’s not to say he doesn’t appreciate the help, he just wishes she would ease up once in a while. Although to be fair, Caramel isn’t always a nuisance. In fact, she’ll often go out of her way to help schedule him playdates with Rocky and does her best to make sure the two aren’t disturbed when having their ‘quiet time.’

3. As a naive, simple-minded kinda fellow, Petri tends to treat everypony with an unassuming amiableness, and while his list of ponies he knows can be written on a napkin, there are exceptions to the rule. I present to you, Exhibit A. Now, to be clear, he doesn’t hate Smokey in any way. She just terrifies him so much with her large, hulking mass and tendency to disregard one’s need to breathe, that he takes advantage of every opportunity to slink away with Rocky to some remote place on the farm, safe from her rock-grinding hooves. To make matters worse, her pet snake, Basalt, eats insects. Alive, innocent, helpless insects! Needless to say, Smokey and Milo don’t usually see eye to eye, both literally and figuratively.

4. Milo, who we all know is an airheaded, trusting dunce, somehow managed to mostly avoid ponies who would take advantage of those traits for their benefit or worse- for harm. However, there’s always at least one rotten apple in every bunch, and for the Pie family, that apple is Charcoal, Smokey’s younger brother. The older, albeit small colt, tends to keep to himself when his extended family comes to visit for holidays’ and such, but he’ll occasionally hang around his cousins simply to test their tolerance limits. Unfortunately, Milo usually ends up being the victim of his teasing, since he’s the easiest to dupe. In fact, he was so easy to fool, that at one reunion, Coal tested the limits of his cousin’s dimwitted brain by convincing Milo that if he ran fast enough off a cliff with two, leafed branches in his mouth he could glide through the air like his one of his stupid bugs. Milo didn’t think it would work, but then again, why would Charcoal lie to him? The poor colt learned the truth too late after plummeting off a steep bank a few feet high and spraining his hoof. Coal, of course, brushed it off as a joke gone wrong, claiming he was innocent, only for his mother to quickly put him in his place. Since the incident, Milo would duck out of the room whenever Coal was around, and for a good reason- since the teasing and bullying only got worse as Coal grew older. It reached a point where Milo and his parent’s only attended the reunions held in Ponyville since Limestone’s family always stayed behind on the farm to keep it running.
