Description
Luna entered Applebloom’s dream fabric in my Equestria dreamscape. The filly’s mind had created glorious, sunny spring day for Sweet Apple Acres. The Princess of the Night soared over rows of blooming apple trees. Their blossoms filled the air with a sweet perfume.
Luna found the filly sitting on the steps of the farm house with a tiny paintbrush clutched between her lips and teeth. Next to Applebloom was small can of white paint.
The filly was making some modifications to her locator pendant which appeared to be made from a small, flat tin can and an old watch hand. Originally it locator had had the words clubhouse, home, Ponyville, Luna. Now the filly had added a fifth word. Stone Mane.
Luna strolled up to her student. “Greetings Applebloom. You seem to be in fine spirits tonight?”
AB finished painting, admired her work for a moment, and then took the brush from her mouth and sealed the paint can. No longer needing the brush or paint the filly waved her hoof and they vanished from sight. Rising the filly bowed to her teacher and then spoke.
“Good day princess. It is a pleasure ta see ya!” Rising she looked up at her with a smile on her face and a sparkle in her eyes.
The Prussian Blue alicorn sat down alongside her student and looked over at her locator pendant. “You seem to be working on you locator?”
Yep! Beamed the filly. “I’ve relabeled it ta include Stone Mane’s name!”
Luna cocked an eyebrow. “Really. You think your locator can find Stone Mane’s own dream fabric? Up to this point you’ve used that artifact to locate things residing in your personal dream fabric. For this to work you’ll have to locate his dream fabric amongst all the other fabrics and islands in the Dream Realm?”
The filly grinned. “Well let’s see if I can!” The filly let go of the pendant so it hung from lanyard around her neck. She closed her eyes and concentrated; after a few seconds the needle started vibrating and the whole pendant slowly floated into the air until it stopped remained pointed at a spot in the sky.
Applebloom slowly opened her eyes and smiled as she saw the pendant floating. Getting to her hooves she slowly turned and paced back and forth along the steps. If she turned her head or body the pendant swung on the lanyard and remained focused on the same location in the sky.
With a very satisfied look on her face Applebloom glanced over at her teacher who was staring at her with a very neutral expression. “Looks like its a working ta me!”
“Are you sure that it is actually pointing at Stone Mane’s dream fabric and not some random point in the Dream Realm?” Replied her teacher.
“Well yer highness. Ya know where Stone Mane’s dream fabric is don’tcha? Could ya do me a favor and see if its a pointing in the right place?”
The Defender of Dreams closed her eyes and concentrated.
She’s done it. Thought the princess. Once again she’s performed a task that I didn’t think she was yet capable of doing. Her potential is amazing! Admittedly she’s visited the colt’s dream fabric several times, but on every occasion I’ve acted as her guide. Now without even leaving her own dream fabric she’s located another pony’s dream fabric across the Dream Realm.
Luna opened her eyes and smiled. She was genuinely impressed and proud of her student’s accomplishment, but at the same time she wondered.
She’s growing so fast. In some cases she’s leapfrogging ahead of my planned instructions. I want to encourage her, but at the same time I fear she’s beginning to reach out into areas of growth that she’s not ready for yet.
“Yes Little Bloom. You are correct. Your locator pendant is pointed in the direction of Stone Mane’s own dream fabric.” Luna smiled.
The filly jumped up and down in glee. “Yes! It worked! It worked! This means I can visit him anytime! I could go tonight and….”
“No.” The princess interrupted. “No. I would advise strongly against it. It is unwise to go into other ponies dream fabrics unless it is required or it has arranged in advance by that pony.”
Applebloom deflated like a balloon. “Oh. Uh, um I guess it might be rude ta just go barging in. Wouldn’t it?”
Luna extended her right wing and gently drew the filly to her side. “I can tell you’re very proud of your creation, and I sense that you are very fond of the young colt. I had a chance to speak with him last night and he to expressed a similar fondness for you Little Bloom. However I must ask that you refrain from you visiting his dream fabric without my supervision.”
The filly looked rather crestfallen at this declaration. “But if I ask him in advance so he know’s I’m coming why couldn’t I visit him?”
Luna smiled and nuzzled her. “The other thing I am concerned about is you encountering another being in the Dream Realm as you journey between dream fabrics. Your own fabric protects you from many beings that live in the Realm. Many of these beings can be dangerous to travelers of the Realm.”
“If that’s a so then why haven’t we seen any of them on our journeys so far?” Asked the filly.
“There are several reasons why. First, I can detect their presence before we encounter them and I have steered us clear of them. Second, I know where they often reside in the Dream Realm and I’ve charted a course around them. Third, many of these beings can sense me approaching and chose not to confront the Defender of Dreams, so we are granted safe passage.”
“So I guess you don’t want me going out there then?” Said the dejected filly.
Luna nodded her head. “Yes I would prefer if you could avoid venturing out into Dream Realm until you’ve gained further experience.” Then she hugged the filly with her wing. “But I still think this calls for a celebration. How does sundaes at Sugar Cube Corner sound to you? And the best part is that they won’t spoil your appetite for breakfast tomorrow morning.”
“That would be great princess!” Exclaimed Applebloom.
With that the two ponies got to their hooves and then flew off to their destination.
