I’m not a big fan of this headcanon but just saying it doesn’t work in cartoons is just dumb

To be honest, I’m more annoyed by their assertion that “mute characters don’t work in cartoons,” or that “mute characters don’t have a personality,” because as I already pointed out below, there’s many famous examples contrary to that. (Just look at the Pink Panther.) It’s like this person has never even seen any animation before the turn of the century.

Me too. Nothing against fanon, but now they’ve pretty much given almost every popular background/bit character an official voice in the show, (even Derpy) so it’s no longer surprising/cool anymore, and getting a li’l overdone.  
So it’s nice in a way to have one character stay silent for now.

Mute Vinyl is best Vinyl.

To be honest, I think it’s far more fitting for her. Disregarding big hype “festival” type DJs, actual party DJing is pretty solitary work. You’re at the back of the party, usually by yourself, and definitely not the focus, unless you have an MC up there with you.

Also a mute DJ has a distinct personality already with just that, in that, by either choice or necessity, she lets her music speak for her.

A relatively chilled DJ is a creative alternative to the fandom’s loud and proud Vinyl.

Truthfully, I kinda like mute DJ. She’s very chill.
 
Also, the idea “mute characters don’t work in cartoons?” What about Scrat, “Tom & Jerry,” the Roadrunner with Wile E. Coyote, the “Happy Tree Friends,” Snoopy, ect. ect.?  
In fact, I remember how awkward it was when they made a ‘90s movie where Tom & Jerry spoke…
 
Also, Harpo Marx proves not every character has to talk to be likeable, or have a personality, but it’s a bit different with DJ/Vinyl, as she’s just a brief bit/background character.

To be fair, Hasbro was in a bit of a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” type of situation with her voice.
