It doesn’t take much for it to start having effects. And chugging mouth wash by the bottle as alcoholics have been known to do is plenty of exposure.

Hydrogen peroxide at the standard 3% disinfectant strength isn’t much of a poison risk; if you drink it, as soon as it hits your stomach… it ain’t gonna stay there long.

Hydrogen peroxide is a common ingredient. So mouth washes are outright poisonous in large quantities.

Wormwood is just a name. The actual plant looks like this.

Edit It’s actually a really nice plant to have around. Wormwood and Mint are both good at keeping mosquitoes and wasps away.

The finest homeless person drink is shoplifted vanilla extract, which generally runs around 70 proof if it’s the kind with ethyl alcohol. Rubbing alcohol–2-propanol for the organic chemists out there–is also frequently consumed by people who should really know better. It can permanently damage your liver or kill you outright via liver failure. Methanol has already been mentioned.
 
Absinthe is a special case. Some chemicals it contains are highly toxic to certain individuals’ body chemistry. One of the symptoms is a potentially deadly heart arrhythmia in which, if you listen carefully with a stethoscope, you can actually hear the heart irregularly making a gurgling “FONDA FONDA” sound.
 
That’s right. Absinthe makes the heart go “fonda.“

Absinthe has trace amounts of weird shit. Wormwood has some funky ketone that has similar effects to wood alcohol but in trace quantities.
 
There is also an old badass named Michael Malloy who developed a tolerance to wood alcohol, and survived several attempted murder attempts including drinking methanol and turpentine.

Actually, not all wood alcohol is lethal. Absinthe uses wormwood.

Mouthwash and alcohol can contain a much more dangerous type of alcohol known as wood alcohol.
 
As little as one shot of wood alcohol can cause death and blindness.
 
 
The only cure for wood alcohol poisoning is Fomepizole or drinking alcohol. Both compete for alcohol dehydrogenase.
