Well, you know: it can’t possibly be that to most of the world post World War 2, the war was acted out on as less a thing Europe and its allies did in self preservation against a highly aggressive imperialist power with aims to literally exterminate most of everyone else not them in the quest for not just a national empire but an ethnic empire, but a period of national awakening in the political sense as the old colonial power structures became disturbed or even masses of a region’s citizens went off to fight in someone else’s war, and like in the sense of ANZAC at the beaches of Gallipoli in the war prior came away at the end with a sense of identity or a notion of what needs to be done for struggles to come. While in particular a specific class of people, already safe in the knowledge of their own position without any notion of threat except the external goes home to rebuild, or in the case of America rake in the benefits of being the sole major industrial power largely unaffected by the ravages of the post-war period; marking a major uptick in home ownership rates as the economy booms because there’s practically zero competition and all the weight and rewards for turning half of Europe into a consumer base with that, as per the reconstruction plan known as the Marshal Plan and the military occupation of and similar reconstruction and modernization of Japan.
 
This in mind, this class of individuals becomes attached to their self image of having won The War and this was the time the country was great again. Where as the notions of self-identity in other peoples in other parts of the world or in the country itself came out of the war with their own conciousness of their political and economic position. This in part laying out before them a new range of conflicts which would become the new identification for these people as the conflicts that would define themselves as self ruling people or as equal members of the societies in which they belong in. Whether it was the wars for self determination in the Dutch East Indies forming Indonesia, the long Vietnamese war for independence from the French, the Indian independence movement, numerous other anti-colonial wars in Africa, and the civil rights movement in America which became more and more emboldened by promises not kept to more veterans since World War 2 and through the Korean War and onto Vietnam which passed down the broader consciousness of the self as being part of an entirely larger system which they did not share the same position of as their white counterparts.
 
The subsequent civil rights struggles, as the independence wars elsewhere in the world became far more defining in their character than World War 2 ever could be. The WASP contingent of America meanwhile, gets World War 2 as their landmark in identity as a thing they’ve done because there hasn’t been any particular achievement from them in that field. This is something I’ve read and picked up on in the comments of where I’ve seen this posted too where people - with mostly white-guy avatars - proclaim World War 2 as being their last “justified war” and everything else since one criminal affair after another, or a defeat.
 
In relation to FoE pone: you had a generation of Equestrians in the wasteland that got to grow up with the events spear headed by Little Pip which created a brand new world and political entity in the wasteland, presumably bringing a modicum of social stability by filling social-political vacuums otherwise vacant through organizing a government and a military, the New Canterlot Republic. The Old Bloods knowing what it was life before, during, and after and carrying that legacy. All the while entirely new generations of young bloods after who even if born during the events of Pip’s campaign of virtue don’t remember anything, and whose only relationship with that world is through stories passed down. And perhaps in some of their own individual ways, feel as though they’ve been robbed want to find some means by which to prove themselves and rationalize their lack of identity with a lack of fight because “they are a violent species” and the only way to prove to themselves or others as to who they are is to “go to battle”.
 
Which if that’s your entire pretense to doing anything, you’re probably sociopathic and no one’s going to need anyone who’ll probably start something outside of the designated limits of service just to prove they are them by shooting someone.

Yeah. The Tumblr statement is absurd and lacking in context. I have never seen anyone, white or not, who idolizes WWII except for actual Nazis and Communists obsessed with a remake for the benefit of their crappy ideologies.  
Most people speak of WWII as something that should never happen again. They are thankful it is over.  
War in general is glorified not because of the death toll, but because it came to an end. Each war is celebrated individually by those who survived, and war in general is seen in a positive light when it was a means of survival. That is why Vietnam was seen with shame but the American Civil war is seen as part of US history.  
My country had no involvement in foreign wars during the modern era, but in general the fact that we survived the wars we had was something worth celebrating.  
War is bound to happen as long as there is some bastard with both the desire and the resources to harm others, even if said bastard is not a terran human.  
Humanity will achieve “World peace” only once we face war against someone from another planet.
