Dragons seem to meet for electing new dragon lords but otherwise live solitary lives once they’re fully-grown.
That makes sense for griffons, since we’ve seen them pop up outside Griffonstone occasionally, but none of the other races ever just show up like that.
That’s a nice headcanon, but I’d still like this concern addressed somehow in actual canon.
For gryphons, I think they mostly integrated themselves into Equestria and built their diaspora eyries in cities with large pegasus populations.
I like to imagine that the cities we encounter are only a single town in entire countries, I’d think that the Crystal Empire, for example, would have numerous smaller crystal towns in the mountains and boreal forests, and I could see Griffonstone as merely the run-down capital of that entire peninsula.
It wouldn’t be so weird if that homeland wasn’t always a small village. Seriously, how did so many sapient races end up on the endangered species list? It’s a little worrying when you think about it too much. (And don’t even get me started on the handful of races we’ve only ever seen one member of.)
A near-miss on kirin extinction.
Does anyone else find it bizarre that only ponies and adult dragons have populations that aren’t entirely clustered in a single homeland?
That gives a slightly more sinister side to the Spring, notably that it could have killed off the kirin civilization had no one interceded.
Here’s some food for thought: Maybe there just weren’t any kirin foals. It’s not that far-fetched to think that the when the Spring of Silence suppressed their emotions, they stopped reproducing as a result of neither feeling the desire to start a family intentionally nor the urges that might result in reproducing accidentally.
I might wanna raise a baby Kirin/nirik.
On the other hand, they use the “anypony, everypony” type pronouns (pone-nouns?) like equines do.
Those split hooves do make a strong case that they are dragon/cervine type instead of Equus/dragon.
