We already settled on the individuality which is the Changeling OC like differential for each of them. Different color for wings, eyes, carapace, and such as well as some other little traits.

I wasn’t talking about the canon we have now, but what should have been. But my opinion and such so….

Given that Pharynx wasn’t simply a copy-pasted implies the first time they showed changelings on screen it made more sense to save time and have them be look a likes. Doubt they ever planned on bringing changelings back initially anyways till the current writers ran out of ideas, so it wasn’t like it mattered. Given the limited time (and Hasbro’s guiding hand) the show has, its always been far more interesting to see what the fandom does (see the limited showing of bat ponies in the show). The old changelings inspired more fanfictions, head canons and art then I’ll probably ever manage to sift through. The most recent few seasons of pony sans the kirin/griffons version 2 hippogrif time haven’t had any of this. The magic table of generating plot ideas was boring, the jimverse with the pillars was pointless (felt Faust roll in her grave), the changelings reformation plot was rushed and didn’t make much sense, and then we got a random school arc for some reason.

Poor sad bookbug.

I don’t see how I did. The fan designs being unique doesn’t change the fact that outside of Chrysalis, the canon changelings were copy-pastes of each other.
 
I didn’t get that message at all. I saw it more akin to something like actual insect metamorphasis (Thorax was wrapped inside a pupa before transforming to drive that point across even further). Not to mention Thorax did gain acceptance before his transformation in his previous episode. Their appearances wasn’t why ponies feared and disliked them (that had more to do with the fact that they violentally attacked them and inpersonated one of their leaders).
 
One could argue the old Changeling design sends a bad message too. The fact they all look the same is like saying a specific group or race of people have to look exactly the same as one another.

If the changelings had made the conscious choice to end up looking like that, I’d probably agree with you - but as presented in the episode, it seems to be more of the case “if you’re beautiful on the inside, it will naturally shine through to the outside” (and of course, it could be reasonably argued that this show’s symbolization of beauty is bright, flashy colors).
 
And frankly, I think the reasoning for the changelings doing that, undergoing the transformation is because they simply wanted to not be hungry all the time - I could believe they didn’t really care, one way or the other, about their impending appearance change (since they would have known, having seen Thorax go through it right before).
 
Either way, the way I see it for myself is that the old changeling designs are never going to be brought back in anything official (except for Chrysalis or one-off instances like what the tree did to Ocellus, or perhaps flashback comics or something like that) so may as well get used to the new designs - though Tbf, in my case, I suppose it helped that I never really found the new designs all that garish in the first place.

Well you’re answered your own concern. Those “classic” Changeling OCs are, in my opinion, are much better to represent their individuality rather than changed to what basically too radical from the original.
 
Also sent rather bad message that you’re have to change your appearance (physical attributes that hard to change like skin color) to be accepted.

Having them all look exactly the same isn’t exactly a good idea either. Cost effective, sure, but none of them had any shred of individuality to them.
 
It really says something when a lot of fans had to change the old designs a bit to make their Changeling OCs look unique (and still continue to do so if they go for the more “classic” Changeling design for their OC).

Its more of the color schemes of the newer ones that ‘bug’ me. That being said, the fandom’s custom changelings designs have always been far more beautiful than the show designs.

Meh, now that we’ve had a couple season to get used to it, I like the changedling designs more than the changeling designs :P
 
(Though Tbf, I do also really like Chrysalis’s design)

We aren’t allowed nice things. (that being said I’d probably not like the newlings anyways if they looked the same because the season 6 reformation arc was trash)
 
I felt cheated when Pharynx changed, so much potential art of that ling faded to dust.
