Many would take issue* with that. Marvel was built on the backs of basically sweatshop labor, exploiting some extremely creative and talented writers, artists, and writer/artists who were often directed to take a bare concept by Stan and do all the work to make it into a viable property themselves. In the process they lost all rights to the creation and content they worked for, and the pay was surprisingly low. A lot of artists from Marvel’s formative years had less than kind things to say about Stan’s editorial approach and shameless aggrandizement, not to mention all the credit he got (and took) for their work.
Basically it’s a lot more nuanced than most people think.
