Yeah, but to a lot of people, the logic is that you’re equating being unlikable or bad with being gay, hence using terms like “gay” or “faggot” as generic insults. Even if that’s not your intent, that is the implication that comes across, intended or otherwise.
 
Like, follow me here. If you don’t see being gay as a bad thing (and I believe you don’t), then it doesn’t make sense to use “gay” (or “fag” or “queer”, etc.) as generic insults for being unlikable, stupid, or lame.

I’m an american. I just call anyone who I dislike and get into an argument with online a “faggot”. Don’t even think about whether or not they’re gay.

It still confuses me how Americans managed to make this word into an offensive term for gays, while my dad still uses it to describe a pack of cigarettes.

Yeah, for me, I’ll laugh it off if it’s directed at me. But I tend to speak up and risk getting a little preachy if it’s directed at someone else.

I personally don’t mind it that much either. All depends on context, I guess. Like, some people use it in a teasing way and others use it in a mocking way. One doesn’t mean anything bad with it, the other does. But then again, I’m bi, leaning more to gay so I’m in a similiar situation I suppose.

It doesn’t personally offend me as a bisexual, and I can easily laugh it off and not really care if it’s directed at me, but I don’t like the way it hurts other people. So it’s less that I have a thin skin about people insulting me for my sexuality, and more that I have empathy for people for whom words like this do hurt. Like LGBT students who face bullying, and maybe aren’t confident enough to stand up for themselves or just shrug it off like I could, that sort of thing.
