The more I think about it, I can see Smolder growing up to be some type of ambassador or something along those lines. It’s like you have the one side of her thats articulate, well spoken and polite, but then you have her other side where she’s firm, direct and firey (no pun intended) when she needs to be.
 
Like when negotiatons between two countries are being held, and she’s sent in as a liason most are usually suprised to find a Dragon as the negotiator. Since in the past Dragons were mostly seen as somewhat millitiristic and hostile by nature. She acts with charm and grace, but still holds a sharp tounge for when negotiatons are about to fall through.

I like that Vogel screwed up this cliché with Smolder’s scenes: for someone like Smolder someone would expect this being her worst nightmare (like those happy flowers were for RD in DPDOMS), but it’s actually her secret passion. It’s just admitting it to her friends that she’s afraid of.

Suggestive nature aside, I think deep down Smolder wishes that she could be more lady-like without being ridiculed by others especially other dragons (with the exception of Spike of course) seeing as they live in a society where the law is “Might Makes Right” and most everything else is percieved as weakness and unessecary. So she puts on the whole “Tough Tomboy” act.
 
Kinda reminds me of Persona 4 now that I think about it. She likes pretty dresses, she likes wearing makeup, she wants to sit and have tea and gossip with her lady freinds. But she hides that part of herself because she’s afraid that others will see her as soft and weak. Thus she puts on the facade that she doesn’t care much for such things. Though I can kinda see Ocellus helping her get out of her shell in that department. Seeing as Ocellus herself has had to deal with ridicule just for being a changeling, so she often thought others saw her as some kind of freak. So Ocellus helps Smolder embrace her femininity more while Smolder ends up helping Ocellus become more confident with who she is.
