(laughs) No, I didn’t mean literally. It’s his design. I think the comic makes it very clear how his background story is. I also doubt we’ll see him again in Season 9. I think there are too many people in the show staff who like the comic too much to change it even more. Which is a pity. He would have a great Lich King potential.

Actually King Sombra according to the IDW comics was an Umbrum in shaoe if a pony. However with his flowing mane and curved horn he coukd be an Eastern Unicorn like Mistmane or others from her home region as shown in “Campfire Tales”.
She’s the leader of the tribe.
