They kind of suffer this in the series as well. DWK pointed it out. Especially in that Zecora episode. There good friend Zecora was dying. Why wasn’t any other pony helping?

Equality - In our state, we're all equal here!

Not just Starlight. Spike, Princess Twilight, the Crystal Prep girls, anyone who could have been able to convince the humane six something was wrong with their memories was pushed aside because it was Sunset’s special. It’s one of the downsides of having such a large ensemble cast of characters, you can’t get rid of all the plothole for where people are and why they can’t help in a crisis.

Well, maybe she was off helping Trixie with her show, or on a friendship mission. I mean, she’s got to do stuff outside of Ponyville on occasion, right?
