It is always better to go with more realistic science in stories like that. Increases drama while keeping it relatable. Learning that if they want to have a child themselves they need to get a man. Man + Woman = offspring. Now they don’t have to do ‘it’, there is artificial insemination, but you can’t beat biology.
 
Coming to the realisation your partner can never give you what you want and feeling that biological need for offspring is a very human story. Rage, resentment, sadness. I am still waiting for a story where one partner lies about “Magical” offspring and later the other partner finds they just went out to a bar and did it the old fashioned way.

Unfairly cute, even with the inherent sadness implied.

I would love for a story where the lesbians deal with the problems of not being able to conceive and the controlling the jealousy they feel toward couples that can, rather than hey magic solves all problems.

Actually, I prefer the adoption stories more. I always found the genderbent stories rather lazy story telling.

It is a very deep human need to want to reproduce thus it is seen as a hugely attractive to be able to have a child. Wish fulfillment in other words. That is basically the reason why they go for magic spawn over adoption usually.

I love the rare adoption story when it comes to same-sex couples. I know,I know, I know, they have gender-bent magic and all but adoption stories feel like they just get avoided for no reason.
