just consider it like this, the writers don’t feel like delving too deep into spike and what he can and cannot do, especially his abilities. I’d assume that it actually is spike himself having the magic rather than it just being his flames, but unless stated offically there is no true answer and the best guess is an either or with no true conclusion.

Like I said, the writers didn’t address this and the new writers will eventually take things in a different direction. I was more talking about the original reasoning for Spikes ability. It will probably not make any sense anymore going forward in the show like a lot of things lore related.

Well after Gauntlet of Fire Twilight and Ember have been sending letters back and forth to each other somehow, and I can’t really picture Derpy flying all the way to the Dragon land and back, without incident.

Twilight specialized in teleportation magic. That was like her signature move. She hatched Spike with a giant magic outburst. Celestia then supposedly took care of Spike as a child. If he had that kind of magic in him then it makes sense that Celestia who can recognize magic talent would teach him how to use it effectively and sending letters back and fourth seems like a good use of it. Plus Twilight was such a loner that any company she would get was going to be a good thing and they were connected to each other already so she could warm up to him and Spike stayed with Twilight as an assistant. His ability might have also been a good argument why he was useful to Twilight so Spike was highly advantageous to Celestias plans. Celestia seems to be able to predict things to a certain extent so maybe she let Twilight hatch Spike on purpose. Hatching a dragon egg seems like a weird trial for young unicorns.

yeah but he also receives letters via regurgitation and as we found out in the season 2 pilot return to harmony if he dose that to much he gets a stomach ach, so spike himself must be enchanted in some way by celestia

I had always thought the letters themselves was magically enchanted to be sent to Celestia when burned. Spike flame is just the catalyst.

Wings is more of an age thing. He gets wings later in the season 8.

I don’t think they can do this. Spike was probably supposed to be magical or something. Same with him not having wings and being hatched via unconventional means by Twilight. I know they never addressed this and are now going a different direction with it but I don’t think the other dragon have teleporting flames.

Instead of using him to spam messages, just let him teach you girls.
