Poor toy sales was most likely the main reason Hasbro gave up on EQG.
You’re only assuming the book has to remain there for it to work. They never said that. And the fact that in the first movie, touching the portal while it was closed did nothing, that implies it’s now always open, since they touched it in this movie and there was visibly magic happening. Plus, if it was closed, Sunset wouldn’t have tried using it herself.
That’s your interpretation. Meanwhile, I’ve seen two times in Friendship Game where it appears to. And frankly I trust the movie more than I trust you.
What makes you think the writers were so attached to human Twilight that they would have just hated it if she didn’t dominate the movie? And ultimately, shouldn’t we care more about what makes a good story? For human Twilight to have “full focus” isn’t somehow an intrinsically good thing. We get plenty of Twilight all the time already. Now we have TWO of her.
Yeah, making assumptions.
The portal, when open, has never once showed a hint of resistance when trying to pass through.
I’m just interpreting the evidence the films give us.
Now you are just making assumptions to make up for the fact.
@DAPLR
I didn’t mean like you’d have to force yourself through, I just meant it’d be easy to touch the surface without pressing all the way through.
Considering in the first movie pink ran into it when it was closed and there was no ripple, the obvious conclusion is it’s just open now.
Not in terms of the story the writers were trying to show. Maybe you would have liked it better, but not the writers.
Damnit, lol.
BP9CA7 is me, just to make that clear. I sometimes forget to click the anon box off.
You’re in denial about this point, Pinkie had ZERO problem putting her hand and then face through it
Twilight’s arm went right through with zero resistance when she was messing around with it after entering the human world in the first EQG.
Or that there’s a bit of resistance you have to push through.
They could, but until someone says or implies that to be the case, the conclusion by Occam’s Razor is that it was closed at the time. If you look around the red magic being pulled from Sunset when she touched it, the mirror was showing the exact same ripple effect that Twilight got when she touched it.
If they really had to, they could handwave that by saying you have to be hopped up on Equestrian magic to go through the portal. Which would also explain why no one from the other side ever fell through during its usual hours of operation. (Wouldn’t that be funny? Some kid tries to lean against the Wondercolts statue and OH SHIT!)
You can definitely see Twilight actively pushing her hand up against the portal and the resistance it is offering. If it had been open, it would have gone through.
We don’t know that she was ‘blocked’. She was being cautious, and Sunset interrupted her before she could go any further.
In the finished movie, Sunset said thay maybe there’s another way to reach her, which implies that she didn’t know if the portal was open.
In addition, Twilight touched the portal earlier in the movie, and she was blocked.
No, it’s always open. Sunset was planning to use it in the movie to contact Twilight but then it closed when the other Twilight stole the magic from it. And the deleted scenes made it explicit that it’s always open now.
While they didn’t explicitly say it in the finished movie, the fact that Sunset tried to use it without having to ask Twilight to open it implies it’s always open now.
