I have, but an item like that doesn’t get referenced in other media just because it’s ‘generic’. It’s Iconic, and recognizable. Sure, maybe the person who designed Ash took inspiration from a hat like that, or maybe not, I’m sure there’s a story out there that explains it. But you can’t sit there and tell people it’s not a reference, when it very much plainly is. Part of what makes MLP fun to watch is the Pop Culture References. Why do you think there’s so many videos, and episode follow ups pointing out such things?
 
Maybe you never played Pokemon, or watched any of the TV show. I have, though I hated the show. Ash was always too dumb for me to follow, and I was freakin’ 9 when Pokemon became Popular in the States. But if can’t agree with the fact that the hat is a reference to Ash’s hat from Pokemon, then you will have cemented the fact, beyond a reasonable doubt that you are. a. Troll.

It’s not an assumption, it’s a reference, like many other references the MLP staff throws in. There’s nothing ‘generic’ about this particular hat. Just look at this guy’s post and you can see how purposefully wrong you are. @Joshua

I don’t think it’s supposed to be a reference to anything, just a generic hat with the Storm King’s logo on it

Honestly, I saw it as a red version of Dipper’s hat. They all look pretty similar. If the Stormking logo had been green instead of blue then I’d see it as a reference for certain.

Kinda funny how I didn’t notice that in the theater.
