@Rainboom Dash
But the second one makes more sense. Darker doesn’t mean worse. The contrast makes sense because those curtains are in the background behind all these lights.

Depends on the projector. Also, the leak was an illegal rip, so we don’t know that the person who made it knew what they were doing, or had the right tools, or what process they used.
I guess what I’m trying to say is the top one was stollen, was never intended to be seen in the way we are looking at it, and we don’t know what damage the thief did in the process of stealing the movie.
@Ciaran
The top one? That’s odd because usually projectors white-wash colors and contrast like a bitch. You’d think they’d use the more crushed contrast version instead to compensate.
@Goddess Erosia
It was intended for projection - that was the copy intended for theaters, so the gamut is not the same as the broadcast version. It’s part of how we could tell if an image was from the leak, or from an advertisement for TV or YouTube.
Bottom is literally just a better contrast. Colors are too milky and bleed into each other in the top but its so minor that I’m not even sure if the leaked material has really been altered since then or if the original image post was just a bad copy
I don’t see anything “washed out” in the top. I just see an overly dark bottom that seems to mask the characters into the background. I know, take the bottoms background and merge it with the tops characters, then it would really contrast against each other and make the characters as they should standing out.
The gamut of the top one was for projection in theatres. It’s not supposed to look good on a monitor - it’s supposed to look good projected onto a screen through a specific variety of projector.
Crisp? More like milky. The way the shadows work on the bottom one makes more sense to me.
But the second one makes more sense. Darker doesn’t mean worse. The contrast makes sense because those curtains are in the background behind all these lights.

Honestly either one could easily be made better if you adjusted with the brightness and contrast
Oh yeah and look at the curtain in the background… On the bottom one… Yikes…

The brightness could be turned up… but the contrast needs to be turned down
I can agree with you on that one.
With the top one the contrast is really messed up.. making it looked washed out
Plus, Rarity is more highlighted in the spotlight in the official release, which is more appropriate, darling.
