Princess celestia: was that song foreshadowing something?
Luna: of course not sister, now let’s have a walk by the river

Yeah but that’s usually a 4chan thing, with people making light of serious acts of terror…. I expect that kind of shock-value toxicity from the internet at least. It’s not the same as actual commonplace nursery rhymes, the tone/context is usually different. We know the jokes we make about those things are sick, but a lot of people don’t realize how disturbing songs like the London Bridge one really are until you slow down and actually pay attention to what it’s saying.

It’s like if kids in America sang about 9/11 or the Zodiac Killer as if it were sweet.

Read up on the murder ballads from Appalachia sometime.

Heck, kids used to (and still do) make up sick rhymes and jokes about serial killers here in the USA.

Reinforcing my non-canon idea that Luna is celtic :)

There’s a lot of songs like this from all over the world though. Some of my favorite songs are about suicide and I never realized until later. I mean hell - look at most nursery rhymes from the English. They’re even worse! Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with the English??? Singing about the black plague, the collapse of the London bridge, famine and other AWFUL things as if it’s cute and a fun thing for the little babies to sing along to. It’s like if kids in America sang about 9/11 or the Zodiac Killer as if it were sweet.
