It’s not quite backwards, it’s just that they’re both time-travellers, and they never meet in the right order (e.g. When the Doctor first met her from his perspective, she knew everything about him). Hence, they both make a habit of not going into too much detail when it comes to stuff the other person hasn’t experienced yet. As a result, “Spoilers” has become a bit of a catchphrase for them.

Well, spoilers: This is a ponified version of River Song, from Doctor Who, who passes through time backwards or something relative to the Doctor so she originally knew everything yet to happen to him and knew less and less as time went by. And stuff. Or something.
