See, I can get behind humanizing an off-white pony with quite darker skin because then you could put them in white clothes; turning coat color into clothes color makes perfect sense. Plus the contrast is nice.
 
But this just kind of… skips the white. Really, I guess I just don’t like Vinyl’s outfit. I don’t interpret her as dressing quite that butch. But this is artistic interpretations and probably part of the commission. It makes me reconsider my head canon of her because there isn’t too much to go on.
 
The paler version really isn’t any better or worse.

For my headcnaon of the two, Octavia was the one that had an easy life. Comes form a ery rich family that has a long musical heritage. Parents were very overprotective of her, but they still love her very much. Octavia never had much friends because of this. Shy when it comes to social situations, and the only times she ever goes out herself is if she wants to go shopping or wants to go out to get something to eat.  
Vinyl on the toher hand had a pretty bad life, as she came form a very poor family, that was struggling to make ends meet. Her parents found out how much she liked music, and ogt her some CD’s and a small turntable for her. Even though Vinyl knew the should have saved the money up for more important things, her parents wanted to make sure she had something to get her mind out of hard times.
 
“The Odd Couple dynamic between easy-going Vinyl and hard-working, serious, trying-to-fit-in Octavia much deeper and complex for me, and it was this head-canon (as well as all the great fan works) which really got me in love with Octascratch. I do like Odd COuple dynamics. I think that they can be really cute, and it allows both parties to bounce off eachother.

When it comes to headcnaons over what each character would be like if they were humanised, i do not have a problem if someone has a different one. Most artists like to have almost all characters as white skinned, but some like to mix it up and add in soem different skin colors for them. I have some characters as white while some headcnaon them as black, and vice versa, but i do not have a problem wiht it. As lon as they don;t act like a jerk about it, then i respect their choice.

I agree. Both Vinyl and Octvia have some really nice colours. They are pleasing to the eyes.

As for the tatoos, it’s mostly becuase 1) it’s one of my fetishes XD and 2) it’s becuase i see VInyl as the type that would like tattoos. She thinks that it’s a way for her to continue expressing herself, make her stand out (plus she just thinks some of them are really badass).  
Octavia got a tattoo reluctantly because Vinyl though t it would be a cute couple idea to do. At first she only got a small one so she could hide it, but over time she actually started to like them, and got more and more of them.

The reaosn i doen that is because i saw some Scratchtavia tickling pics that i thought were nice, and that they wluld look cool if they were humanised. Skin clours were added becuase i wanted to make them stand out more (not a lot of images of tickling that have the characters in dark skin), and the tattoos were added becuase i enjoy them.  
Also, both of them enjoy tickling, as it allows them to have some intimate time, but more gently, and it is also more fun to do then other intimate acts that are NSFW.

IMO, i think that downvoting an image just becuase someone has a different skin colour then your headcnaon is pretty stupid.

Still, there’s a lot to be said for variety. ice1517 has consistently brought to this site a dark-skinned, blue-haired Vinyl and a lighter Octavia. There’s a whole lot of potential for re-imagining the Octascratch dynamic here, particularly in regards to my own head-canon, so this is of personal interest to me. A lot has changed in the MLP canon since The Best Night ever. Similarly, fanon has also changed since classics like “Musicians of Ponyville,” and I am interested in any new directions it may go.
 
I can keep and accept multiple continuities, including older ones based on the stoic Octavia from The Best Night Ever, as well as the much more energetic canon Octavia we saw in “Slice of Life” and the voiceless Vinyl. I am very interested in the active development of actual canon, but I also have an attachment and interest to my stoic Octavia and talkative Vinyl head-canon I developed in the early fanfic days.

As a last word on the blue hair with darker skin thing, as mjangelvortex showed, it’s a color combo which can definitely work. As another example, I’d like to point out a few of revtilian’s images, but they are all Explicit.

With most of the characters in the show that have a bright coat/hair, I normally make them brown or black skinned.
 
I think that bright colours would go well against more darker skin tones, then compared to a white skin.

Reaosn I made Vinyl black is because I think that the blues in her hair would go well against a black skin tone, since I think it provides a nice contrast.

I upvoted. I love seeing humanization art where people use other ethnicities for the characters. But if I were to be honest with you, I don’t think that shade of blue in Vinyl’s hair goes well with that shade of brown her current skin tone has. The bright neon blue really clashes with it.

I’m not even touching this one.
