Saying that you don’t care for homophobes because you think they are unpleasant or backwards is an opinion, but that’s not what you said.

Well that we can agree on, with eight billion people on this planet you are bound to find someone who fits any mold you can think of. But you always have to keep in mind the motive for those stories, it’s money. The more outlandish garbage you can push out the more the ignorant masses will slurp it up.  
Making broad generalizations based on what may or may not be anecdotal evidence or edgy click-bait is just irresponsible, it’s best to just assume that everyone has their own unique personal reasons. Because they do.

I do take note of this statement:

Of course, I don’t think all closeted gay people are explicitly displaying homophobia out of sheer confliction; some just crumble under the pressure and ended up tragically taking their own lives as a result
 
There is still no denying that there are some suppressed individuals like that do exist in scandalous news stories (others may call anecdotal evidence, but I’ll let you be the judge of that)
