Tanzanite is the third born and only son of Rarity and the first and only child of Spike the Dragon. Despite being the youngest, Tanzanite grew rapidly, and outgrew his twin sisters by the time they were out of school.
Tanzanite’s name was inspired by his eye color. They also glow at night.
With being half dragon, a lot of ponies his age were intimidated by him growing up.. But he always had his sister Charity to make him feel better about being the only one of his kind. Although there are other hybrids, there were no other dragony’s where he grew up.
He is currently unemplyed; He can’t obtain a cutie mark due to his father’s genetics, but he also doesn’t know what he wants to do with his life even if he could get one. He likes to travel a lot, and often wanders out of Equestria despite his mothers’ pleas for him to stop doing that. His adventurous and curious personality keeps him wandering.. But he always comes home.
For a little while, Tanzanite was in a relationship with a unicorn mare by the name of “Joyau Precieux”. (Daughter of Fancy Pants and Fleur de Lis - Half sister to Clarity and Charity) They were together for a long time until she decided to travel the world and disappear from his life with no reason or explanation. (Only because her owner is inactive and decided to stop using her)
As Tanzanite got older, he met another dragony by the name of Blue Moonstone, who he found wandering the gem caves. Seeing as she wasn’t from Ponyville, neither of them wanted to believe their eyes at first.. But they quickly became friends and Tanzanite introduced her to his home and gave her the information about their “species” that she didn’t know. She didn’t know where she came from, or who her true parents were, but Tanzanite vowed to help her find them and teach her how to be a Dragony.
Tanzanite likes taking evening flights with his father and hunting for the very best gems to snack on. Despite being half pony, Tanzanite (And Blue Moonstone) are capable of digesting both gems and regular pony foods; but they prefer the taste of gems thanks to their dragon genetics.

As their friendship developed, Tanzanite quickly became interested in Blue Moonstone in a “more than just a friend” kind of way. Although it may have seemed stereotypical that a dragony would fall for another of his kind, he couldn’t help it; there was something about her he loved besides the fact she was like him. After some dorky courting and clutzy attempts at gaining her affection, Moonstone finally shared his feelings and agreed to start dating. This eventually over the years led to the birth of their son, Frostbite Diamond.
