Hey guys… I know mlp G4 is ending soon… But im already thinking of leaving the fandom… Don’t get me wrong tho! The show was good! But… I just don’t feel… that spark anymore… Please don’t hate! It’s just… I really don’t like the show that much anymore…

Basically what I think.
 
From what I’ve seen, Applejack’s still sticking around, just with some alterations. And her losing her “country-isms” isn’t some kind of character assassination.
 
And this kind of thing isn’t new for a series made to sell toys. Transformers does it all the time with their characters. TMNT does it too (just look at ‘87!Raphael). And then of course, there’s Marvel/DC…
 
There’s a good chance that rest of the Mane six will also undergo their own character changes (and I don’t just mean the supposed race swaps), but for some reason everyone wants to treat this situation like it’s a tragedy.

It’s funny because the dolls all smile the whole way.

Well, they don’t have to completelly reform the character - and even if Applejack wouldn’t be a famer girl, it isn’t all of her personality/characterisation. (She’s stubborn, loyal, sincere - if in past, and thanks to Discird had problems with lying - etc).  
Also, ‘bout similarities to Sunset, one can headcanon the G5 Applejack, is the daughter of Sunset and Applejack XD
 
(And the G5 Applejack still reminds of a farm girl, just not a cowgirl, or at at least overtly a cowgirl)
 
About Applejack not selling well - this is the case in US (and at least some other countires), but for example in Japan, Applejack is one of the most popular characters, aguably the most popular of the Mane Six in Japan. So it can also affect overall sales, seeing how much a large market Japan is, how Hasbro is tied to it (ie Transformers).
 
Not to mention, we don’t know yet if the G5 leaks are true. I mean, there is now so much false leaks, and news these days - for now we must wait.

Well it is very clear that Hasbro does not know what to do with Applejack, in fact for her there are two options, the first is to completely reform the character away from the farmer pony that is, the second is to replace it with a completely different character, as stated by certain executives Applejack does not sell among the girls because it is a farmer character, they want it to be as close as possible to Sunset or Tempest, they even propose that their hair color be the color of Sunset.

I’m not 100% sure if the leaks are true, and while indeed Applejack is diferent, so are other Mane 6 ponies. I mean, Applejack at least retain her species - Twilight is in G5 an Earth Pony, and Flluttershy an Unicorn.
