well, twilight’s pet hunts on his own, at night. rarity feeds opalescence cat kibble, which is as far departed from meat as possible. applejack feeds winona juicy steak and pork loins, but is grossed out because dash is eating a bug. and pinkie pie feeds gummy (wait for it) gummy worms!

Nah she is used to see her animal friends eat. In fact I am surprised that Rarity who own a cat, AJ a dog, Twilight an owl, and most of all Pinkie an aligator that can’t hunt it’s own food because he’s toothless. Get disgusted. Only RD own a vegetarian pet.

Well actually pigs can be fed refuse that otherwise would be put to compost and make it fertiliser much quickly too. All those apple unfit for market got to go somewhere. The Apples extract the cyanic seeds then feed the pigs with it.
 
As for the brain energy? Have you not seen the amount of sweets they consume?

They have hayburgers, grass pancakes, and their “hotdogs” are carrots. It looks pretty solidly like the writers shut the case pretty solidly on them eating meat. The only indication we ever had in the show of them eating meat is Pinkie mentioning hot dogs in Fall Weather Friends - then much later we saw those “hot dogs” are actually carrots. So the writers kinda went out of their way to shut down that possibility.
 
Killing things to eat isn’t an idealized sort of thing, and a lot of MLP is an idealized sort of world where the best outcome is at least possible. So… Yeah.
 
The only exception we’ve seen is fish as I’ve mentioned before.
 
Which is pretty good and important when you consider that even mice have shown signs of intelligence in the show…

Vegetarians eat seafood, so for all I know seaponies are swimming plants. 🙂

Not just muscle mass, but their brains too. At least 20% of the calories we humans consume go directly into supplying our massive brains with the energy they need. Given that ponies are a sapient race I would be quite shocked if they never consumed meat. While I understand ethical concerns would mean it’d be mostly things like pork and seafood, the depiction of ponies as “vegetarians sickened by even the possibility of meat” really bothers me.
 
With that said there’s nothing against certain folks not liking meat anyway. I expect Applejack to be one; even though she raises pigs (most likely for delicious bacon) she doesn’t consume it herself.

We’ve seen mice wear a cast and use a wheelchair (A Bird in the Hoof) but we’ve also seen Fluttershy feed fish to otters. Or weasels or Ferrets? Some little carnivores.
 
So it would seem that even mice are somewhat intelligent, but aquatic life is not.
 

 
But they still might react just as well to eating it as we, humans, react to eating bugs. Totally can. Some rare cultures do.
 
But still almost always seen as disgusting and not-food despite being edible and monkeys eating them.

I’m with the others. Seafood is le gross.

I have headcanon that ponies have fewer cultural objections to eating seafood than they do to eating the flesh of land-dwellers, especially birds and mammals. Fish, shrimp, and so on are less cute and less relatable, so those who might not eat beef often do not hesitate to eat shrimp.
 
And ponies do have a lot of muscle mass and need a lot of protein, if they are anything like real world horses.
