Meghan McCarthy also said Twilight learned from her experiences in the human world, and (spoilers) the sirens appaear in the show so…it doesn’t make much sense as to why you think it’s non canon.
 
Anyways, not gonna argue it, we’re told to stop.

It was never confirmed. Meghan McCarthy said that EQG doesn’t affect FiM’s storylines and another show staff member said that EQG is only canon in the EQG universe. Also it still makes more sense for Starlight to be there than Sunset. Sunset wasn’t even in the movie or the show but Starlight is.
