There was allegedly 7 elements, and 7 pillars, they later included Stigyan, this being only 6 elements, so there could still possibly be a 7th one still.

I’m probably overthinking things, but if it’s about the magic that ‘made’ the geodes here’s what I think. Otherwise, carry on.

Feel free to correct me at any point.  
Assumptions:  
[1] The element of magic was the initial entry point of Equestrian magic into the new world  
…. - The CHS girls (5 of them anyway) received magic from the element and were able to retain it. Sunset must have been able to retain hers as well from wearing the crown/element, but was only able to harness it properly once she fully accepted (and was reciprocated) friendship at the climax of RR.  
[2] Anyone who received/inherited the first batch of magic in EqG becomes an extension of the element of magic/elements of harmony  
…. - This just means that the main 6 inherited magic straight from the element, thus whatever magic they had is as good as the one from the element(s).  
[3] Magic from the element is stable; i.e. it cannot ‘leak’ without external influence  
…. - Up until the LoE ending stinger, magic is not shown to be ‘leaking’ from the main 6/7, otherwise other students should have been using magic later on. As for external influences:  
…….. > The sirens had their gems to absorb their magic.  
…….. > (then-)CPA Twilight unintentionally took theirs with her magic pokeball necklace.  
[4] A ‘leak’ somewhere became the second entry point of magic  
[5] Magic from the second entry point created/empowered the geodes  
…. - We know this since in Gloriosa’s memories, she saw magic that entered a cave and followed it, where she found the geodes.

They don’t have a purpose yet though. People speculate it’s the EqG-world’s version of the Element or simply just a source of magic they can use for themselves.

you do realize there is a extremely high chance that those geodes CAME from the tree of harmony? a small shard of power for them to use.
 
The tree has become far beyond its original purpose. it is constantly evolving.

One of the reasons why I rather they bring the Geode idea. An extension of the original Elements without actually replacing them. It allows for extra virtues to be added without diminishing the meaning of the original 6 virtues (which are what allowed Twilight’s ascension).
 
But if they have to make the -immers some aspect of Elements, I am fond of the idea of the Element of Magic encompassing sub-virtues, like, for instance, empathy and sympathy, and once Twilight learns of them from Sunset and Starlight respectively, she “evolves”, per se, in her alicorn status i.e. just getting her wave more wavey. And preferably more power too.
 
Of course, Sunset and Starlight are still learning their own virtue, so it’s a learning experience for all three of them, one of which that no doubt everyone will help them with.
 
This is all wishful headcanon but I think it could still work. But if it’s all too complicated it’s better just not to have a 7th Element.

I don’t think Starlight is an element. She literally subverted TWO generations of ‘elements’. If anything, Starlight is anti-element.
 
You see that Sunset works really well with the Mane6 while Starlight just doesn’t. She either just hangs around them without giving any meaningful input, or she does something on her own and everyone takes a backseat. There is no synergy between Starlight and the other Element, so having her be the “seventh” is the worst decision ever.

Someone didn’t pay any attention to the episode.

Additional elements sound dumb to me. The 6 elements already make a rainbow and have been established to go together since the 5 other elements are needed to make the element of magic.  
The elemental traits already cover up pretty much every good behaviour, too. Other behaviours are just different ways of saying the 6 elements (Sympathy, Forgiveness, Empathy = Friendship and Kindness) except for love which we already have a princess for. It just feels like bad writing.

While I’m not fond of a seventh element at this point, for several reasons. I would rather EqG’s Geodes concept be brought into Equestria.
 
If they did have to add Starlight as the seventh Element, Sympathy (Forgiveness is dumb to me), I would only fully accept it if Twilight gets a new more ethereal form after acknowledging Starlight’s new Element.

Isn’t the purple thing in the middle of the old picture just the seed that was planted and the green leaf one of the actual elements, with the disparity being due to no one actually knowing what the fruits would look like all grown back then?
