@roiled_foil
I know. I got that from your last post. And I can agree with you to be honest. Most, if not all, political movements have one or two things worth saving. But they must be filtered out of the ugly ones.
@Ihhh @raakamagna
And I’m not advocating for genocide or totalitarianism by any means. I find certain aspects of the cultural components to fascism to be healthy and good, and worth consideration on how to better improve the systems we use today. A country will fall if it does not share a common bond, but that doesn’t have to be racial. Common values are what binds us together. Family and community should be held in high regard, and the government should serve the people rather than boss them around. Individual expression married with unity in a country is a pure goal to strive for.
@Ihhh
I agree. In fact, that is exactly what I do not like about fascism. Too focused on power and authority for the “greater good”. Most of the time when people excuse on a “greater good” it is actually because they are doing something horrible.
@Ihhh
He is somewhat right in some aspects though. Fascism has some things that are nice. The focus on power and social cohesion is a bit dangerous, but preserving values and the family units isn’t bad, also putting the exceptional in charge rather than letting the mediocre to lead due to popularity is a better idea.
>Alicorns rule because to become an alicorn, ponies must do things that are considered outstanding. Pretty much a meritocracy.
Precisely my point. That is how fascism works; a rule of those who have been proven to be the most qualified to lead.
>And there is a democracy and a lot of freedom in terms of local rules.
There is local liberty yes, what is your point? No laws are enacted by the smaller towns or provinces which violate the Alicorns’ laws.
>I mean. The opposite of emphasis on family unit and local community is literally a lack of cohesion or family.
A great many mainstream socialist thinkers throughout history have advocated for the abolishing of the family unit, opting instead for society to raise children somehow. On a brighter note, Fascism is about strengthening the family bond and the bond of community both on the local and national levels.
>The opposite of valuing morality and fine art is immorality and vulgarity.
Fascism heavily opposes immorality and vulgarity, yes.
>The opposite of having a place in society based on innate talents is doing things you hate and you are terrible at.
>Not to mention cutie marks represent what ponies are, not just their innate talents.
Yes, and when one fully embraces their talents and who they are and uses them to not only provide for their family, but also to uplift their entire people and culture, that’s fascism.
Fascism is derived from the concept of workers binding a nation together through shared bonds and mutual respect, with a focus on meritocracy and accountability in the leadership roles. You seem to think it’s a police state where the workers are trampled and the leadership is unaccountable.
>You are making fascism sound kinda good, dude. I mean, the opposite of it sounds quite bad.
In politics there is no black and white. The “political compass” is literally a meme. Only those who have a feeble understanding of history can claim that one ideology is pure in every category, and all others should be refuted in every case outright. Policy and outlook should be viewed practically, and not based on pre-conceived and almost fanatical idealogical notions (talking to both sides of the isle here). There are many excellent qualities in Fascism, and one doesn’t have to agree with every implementation in history to acknowledge that. Just because Fascism values family, community, and morality, doesn’t mean we should reject these things. Fascism may be considered a sin after Hitler, but should meritocracy, diligence, and social cohesion now be discarded as goals for our own societies? Far be it! We should learn to synthesize the upright principles within differing worldviews, and use them to strengthen our own. You don’t have to be Fascist to love quality in art. You don’t have to be a Fascist to value the family and care for the poor (Nazi Germany had extensive social welfare programs). You don’t have to be a Fascist to strive for unity and a common bond.

Also, dunno if we are watching the same show, but Celestia’s rule is no dictatorship. Alicorns rule because to become an alicorn, ponies must do things that are considered outstanding. Pretty much a meritocracy.
And there is a democracy and a lot of freedom in terms of local rules. Twilight Sparkle’s authority rarely overrides Mayor Mare’s for example, and each state seems to be ruled by the mayor’s laws.

As for “coming to the side of the fascists,” of course I mean her redemption arc and how she then worked with the government of Princesses Celestia and Luna by aiding the Mane 6.
Why would you expect me to be impolite? Did you prejudge me?

It’s nice that you’re being polite in the thread,
but it would be even nicer if you could explain what the hell you’re talking about in the OP.
I’m having trouble figuring out what Starlight’s done to ‘come to the side of the fascists’.
@Background Pony #2FC6
The bottom vector is not from the show directly. However, the comparison is based on the show. The one which really looks like Goebbels is the top screencap anyway.
@OtherDrawfag
Considering that’s from Twilight’s paranoid speculation about a changeling impersonating Starlight, I’m going to hazard a guess that it doesn’t quite count. Still funny, though.
Uh… did I miss an episode? Like, does Starlight start slaughtering griffons midseason or something? ‘Cause that’s pretty goddamn brutal for TV-Y, lemme tell ya.

There is no reason you cannot implement the good parts of fascism without committing genocide and establishing a totalitarian government.
