I think the main argument against communism needs to move away from the body count, and focus on where it fails at a practical level. Primary and secondary drives are the motivations behind any kind of human activity. A primary drive fulfills an immediate biological need, while a secondary drive associates a secondary task with fulfilling that need in the future. Technological innovation takes a lot work. People are driven to innovate by the idea that there will be some form of return. If everyone gets the same return no matter what kind of work they do, there will be very little innovation. No one will be competing to make the better product or invent the next best thing. Not to mention it halts the process of natural selection by eliminating any kind of competition.
I totally agree. Our own media was against us. They created the backlash, through deceptive reporting, just like they do today.
