My biggest piece of advice is to practice, because great art comes from a skilled artist and skill comes from hours and hours of practice. Yes ask other artists for tips and advice, study and learn as much as you can about art, and most importantly don’t be afraid to mess up and make mistakes. Yes things will be frustrating at times, but stick with it and you’ll see the fruits of your labor. Don’t trace though it is better to bad drawing you freehand than a good drawing you traced, as when you trace a drawing you steal from the artist who made the drawing your tracing. Now I’m not saying don’t have reference images, as every artist uses some kind of reference. Just don’t directly copy what it is your referencing; use your reference as a jumping off point to create your own drawing that is uniquely you. Also just relax and don’t stress yourself out; what you can do that is a simple exercise, but effective exercise is take a coloring book and place it next to the paper your drawing on and try to redraw that image. It’ll help you get a feel for drawing and as you get a better feel you can start pushing yourself more and more; till your drawings only have a passing similarity to the image your referenced. Another exercise I would recommend is Google pony bases or mlp bases and you’ll get a bunch of bases from the show as well as bases made by other artist. Find a base you like than draw yourself a pony and from their keep practicing and pushing yourself. If you want more advise or tips you can message me.

My sister tends to say the same thing as OP. She once complained about how people keep being jealous of her “talent” when really all she’s got is years and years of practice behind her.

And paper. Lots and lots of paper.

Well how about this. I’ll find a lead based pencil and one of them coloring books, from there I’ll trace the lines to get a feel for things.

There’s this one artist I’ve been extremely loyal to so maybe he can give a few pointers.

Your long winded reply did help, because now I’m contemplating putting a concept into motion.

Ask for requests. I did that early when I started drawing and its a good way to keep drawing even if you don’t know what to draw and or are lacking the inspiration to draw. Plus you still get to keep practicing, but don’t trace. It is better to bad drawing you freehand than a good drawing you traced, as when you trace a drawing you steal from the artist who made the drawing your tracing. Now I’m not saying don’t have reference images, as every artist uses some kind of reference. Just don’t directly copy what it is your referencing; use your reference as a jumping off point to create your own drawing that is uniquely you. Also just relax and don’t stress yourself out; your inspiration will return.

I know this going to sound lame, but just relax and have fun with your art; If you have fun when your drawing you’ll end up enjoying it and than you’ll end up drawing more and if you draw more you will get better at it. Also you don’t need money to draw. All you need is some paper, a pencil, and an eraser. When I first started drawing all my drawings were hand drawn, inked with markers (like sharpie markers), and than scanned; even now I still hand draw everything and than photograph it before drawing it digitally. Now as for doing digital art yes you can spend money on expensive programs and tablets, but I don’t feel that to be necessary. I actually use a drawing app from the Google play store called ibisPaintx (all my stuff posted on here was done with it) and it is 100% free to download. Now there is one catch with it and that is to get access to all the brushes you have to watch a short add; than you have access to all the brushes for 18 hours before you’d have to watch another short add, or you can buy and add free version. With that app all you need is your phone and or tablet and a good pen. I got a good pen at BestBuy for between $30 and $50; you just have to make sure its works well with touch screen and even try it out on your phone in the store to make sure it will work good for drawing. Now as for artist tablets you hook up to your computer I have the Intuos from Wacom and it wasn’t super expensive around $100; it also came with everything you need to start drawing. Than I just used a free drawing program called Gimp on my computer, but if you ask around or do a little research you’ll find more free drawing programs that are better. Now when it comes to animation my best advice would be to study it. Buy book on the subject of animation (like actual how to books), look up tutorials, talk to artists you admire and see if they can give you advice on where to start, and after that practice. I hope this long winded reply of mine helped you out and if you need any more advice or want feed back on any other your work let me know; you can always direct message me.

I can’t draw. My stick figures look like noodles because I can’t make a straight line even with a straight edge. Besides, I write instead.

Because I seem to have lost my inspiration. I have ideas, some of my own, some simple traces, but no inspiration.
