“You’re what?” Sombra exclaimed.

Ruby stood resolute, despite the fear that swelled inside her. Her mother told her about how her father used to have a temper and how reckless he was when he was younger. He was young, alright, but also a stranger. The farther she went back, the more she knew about him; but in return, he knew less about her.

“I’m… your daughter,” she repeated, her eyes struggling to meet his.

Sombra narrowed his eyes. “Prove it.”

“Sir-” Autumn Gem cut in. She cowered when Sombra turned his icy gaze on her, but she did not go silent. “She does look an awful lot like you. She has your eyes.”

“Red eyes aren’t uncommon,” Sombra commented. “Besides, she’s too young to be mine. Or lest you’ve forgotten that the Empire has been gone for a thousand years.”

“God, Mom was right, you really are narrow-minded,” Ruby commented, rolling her eyes. “Ever heard of time-travel?”

“You really expect me to believe that you traveled from the future,” Sombra began, arching a brow, “time travel isn’t possible. Not even Starswirl was capable of perfecting it.”

“No, but Aunty Twilight was,” Ruby continued. “It’s… a bit of a long story and I mostly slept through it, but I convinced her to use the spell and I… ended up here. I wanted to see you.”

“And just why would you do that?” Sombra demanded.

Ruby averted her gaze. “…Because I never got the chance to meet you.”

Silence greeted her ears. Finally, Ruby looked up to see Sombra staring at her with an unreadable expression. She sighed. “I don’t want to give spoilers, but I… I never got to meet you. It’s just been me and Mom for the past 16 years. I mean, she doesn’t even know I did this, because if she did, she’d kill me, but… I just wanted to see you. Talk. I mean, I can understand if you don’t want to, ’cause this must be weird, but-

Ruby was silenced by an intense embrace the crushed the air out of her. She gasped and pulled away to look at her father, who was looking down at her. Then, she hugged him back, tears pricking at the corners of her eyes. They stood like that for a long moment, not a word said between them.

“So…” Autumn Gem drawled out, coughing awkwardly. “Who’s the mother?”

Ruby opened her eyes. “Oh, crap, that’s right.”
