Maybe they didn’t wanna pander too much, and just a li’l. Plus, that fanon about Colgate/Minuette kinda fell into obscurity. Like the “Lyra likes pants” or “Scootaloo is a dodo” gags.
Which makes me wonder why minuete was not a dentist especialy right after all the fan pandering of slice of life

I assume they just weren’t aware of Faust’s headcanon, and such. But oh well, it’s blue, so we’re still going to believe it’s Trixie.
And it’s possible, they’ll take back what they said later, and have that if they ever bring up her backstory. They tend to go with popular fan opinion sometimes. (Like how the comic still uses the fanon red eye color for DJ, instead of purple.)

Keep in mind she’s a li’l kid here, and still in training, so she might not of always been good at it.
Plus, according to Faust she did go to Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns. (Just like Twi’.) So that kinda puts this image in a new light.

No, the difference between Trixie and Twilight is that Trixie’s a showpony. That’s her job. So of course she’s going to respond to hecklers like the mane six by using her magic and flaunting her “superiority” by doing so.
But let’s not open that can of worms again.
The episode goes to great lengths to show Twilight’s vastly superior skill when it comes to magic, so it’s not surprising people make that assumption. Though it would be similar for nearly any other unicorn.
I assume she has above-average magical talent, like Flim & Flam seem to have.
