Background: Riptide was born up in the mountains to competitive skiing ponies. His family was primarily oriented around being very competitive and often pushed Riptide a little too hard. Riptide was named in honor of his uncle who passed away at a young age as he attempted to learn how to surf. Riptide initially took to snowboarding like it was the easiest thing in the world to him, but it never fully satisfied him. Eventually, Riptide’s parents decided to take him out to visit the rest of the family who lived close to the ocean. They all took a trip to the beach to get some relaxation in, and that’s when Riptide found his love for the ocean. His younger cousin decided to show him some surf boards, and Riptide instinctively grabbed one and set out to the ocean. He took to surfing much faster than he did snowboarding and fell in love with it instantly, gaining his cutie mark on the spot. When it came time to head home, Riptide was very reluctant to leave the ocean, but still did as his parents wished. The following years he was at home, he learned to despise the snow and even snowboarding. His parents witnessing this tried to reignite the passion he had for competitive snowboarding and even tried to make it a bit more challenging for him, but he had become rather asocial. It wasn’t until he turned 18 and fled away from home that he was able to pursue his real dream.General Bio:Riptide developed a very asocial personality early on in life shortly after he gained his cutie mark. He turned into a rather hostile and defensive individual that seemed on want nothing more than to be alone. He does have moments, however, where is true loving heart comes through and he can be gentle and caring. Regardless most of the time he ignores ponies and pretends that they’re not around. It wasn’t until he met Orchid that he decided to try and change this behavior, although he still struggles with it quite a bit. When he’s with Dusky in private though, he turns into the pony, he personally thinks, he would have grown up to be if he was allowed to stay by the ocean his whole life. Even though he fled home without a word to his family, he still sends them post cards and souvenirs from all the places he travels to let them know he still thinks about them and loves them.Relationships:Currently in a relationship with Orchid Dusk. He met her after he had entered a surfing competition and was searching for a souvenir to take home from Haywaii. Instead, he found a Beautiful mare, and decided to stay in Haywaii. He loves Dusky with all of his heart, but he can struggle to show it sometimes, often feeling awkward and not knowing what to do when in public. In private, he is quite a bit less awkward, but he still finds himself feeling a bit weird in her presence. He attributes it to her being the first pony he has ever really fallen for full heartedly.
