There’s this thing called ‘bisexuals’ and the other thing called ‘open relationships’ that does actually exist.
Not saying it was that, just saying that what you’re saying doesn’t rule out a relationship.
Sunset Shimmer is canonically bisexual [so the concept does exist in their world].
Applejack referenced “Rollercoaster of Friendship” while on the ship (implying that was the last time all of them were together outside of classes at CHS).
Rarity was comforting Applejack when she was incappable of eating anything at the buffet (because of her sea sickness) by caressing her head.
-> If they ended (or paused) their romantic relationship, it was likely because of Rarity´s need to “explore” her wants & desires [since she is clearly bisexual, while Applejack may just be a lesbian].

Incorrect. Rarity had a crush on a guy in Spring Breakdown. AJ showed no signs of heartbreak or anything similar to indicate an existing relationship. What you saw in Rollercoaster of Friendship is a classic example of this trope, and nothing more.
Shippers tend to exaggerate a casual relationship between two characters when material provides any sort of fuel for them.
I guess EqG!Rarity×EqG!Applejack counts as level 5, as was confirmed by creators.
@Dusk Raven
Yep. I was very disappointed when it turned out that Hard Boiled had a crush on his (now dead) partner Juniper in “Starlight Over Detrot: A Noir Tale”. You just can’t be a bros without the sex&romance stuff those days.
@Angrybrony
Much like with IRL Valentine’s Day, it probably means something… less serious to the CMC, at least. For foals their age, it’s probably not uncommon to give gifts to friends.
@Evil Emperor Proteus
While I don’t share your aversion to that term, I do lament that, as a culture, we seem incapable of seeing two people who have a close bond without imagining them as having a sexual relationship. Any behavior beyond just talking is seen as an indication of other things more physically. While it’s not off the table, so to speak, it’s unfortunate that that’s the default assumption rather than, say, some other form of love.
@Angrybrony
Do you have any evidence? As far as I can tell it has only been shown to be a romantic holiday. I guess the question I am asking is when you say “can” do you mean “can” or “could” (indicative as in it does happen as a factual statement or conditional as in it might happen because it is not excluded from possibility, or in less technical grammatical terms, are you stating it as a fact or a possibility)
But the subtext shouldn’t be ignored there. Big Mac was going through a bit of heartbreak, having just dumped Sugar Belle (out of a misunderstanding of her intentions, because eavesdropping, and taking Discord’s advice), then the “camera” shifted to those two, heavily implying that he saw them as a “happy couple” that he wished he could be.

The term lesbian lovers is not a sexual term inherently. It is simply a descriptor of two romantically involved females. Folks can be romantically involved without participating in lascivious activities. Extrapolating lewdness from this is on you, and is as silly a complaint as about any shipping; most people do it because they think the pairing is cute, not for lewd reasons.
I would also argue there to be fairly significant hinting at them being lovers, namely that approximately 15 minutes and 50 seconds into the episode ‘The Breakup Breakdown’ they exchange presents for Hearts and Hooves day, which is shown to be a romantic holiday, then embrace and nuzzle. On any other day I could shrug it off, but it being Hearts and Hooves day changes the implications.

Yeah I agree with that
ha no.
Yes.
that sounded curiously ominous.
>thing called ’open relationships’
It does exist, yes. Not for long, though.
sunset is “”“canonically””” bi.
also no. rarity and aj are not in a relationship at any point otherwise we’d have been told in the show

harts and hooves day can also have friends exchange gifts.
Uh, yeah, the term isn’t meant to be equal to lesbian sex. It’s not that deep.
