I said it’s the “main gathering place of the fandom”. Meaning, that’s where you find all the stuff.
Here on Derpibooru is just art. FIMFiction.net has only fics. YouTube only videos and music.
And on all these places, you first have to know a certain account or channel to see what they have to offer.
But EQD features all of this and makes you able to find those artists. Plus it features all important news about MLP: FiM and it is the only place that does that.
It’s basically the pillar of fandom artists, on which they rely to get word about them out.
That’s also why it would be so fatal if it would disappear without a site having been established to replace it.
If pony artists don’t get an opportunity to make themselves known in the community, they don’t exactly have a whole lot of incentive to create pony art.
Why did you say ED with the most visited site in all the fanbase earlier? XD
Half of the fanbase? As in, less than five million people? I doubt it. By looking at the comments there where it is mostly the same circle of jerks posting all the time, I would reckon with no more than one million people visiting the site daily anymore, maybe even less.
It maybe used to be more in the past, but at this point, most have really moved on from Equestria Daily, because they got sick about all of its drama posting and clickbait it has these days.
From what I’ve seen, people got largely fed up with Equestria Daily almost two years ago when it jumped on the Drawponies hate bandwagon, even for something that didn’t really matter in the end anyway.
That was when EQD jumped the gun as well, because after that, I noticed more and more users who were active there suddenly deleting their IntenseDebate accounts. EQD has lost a lot of active users in 2015.
The fandom is far from being dead, it’s just that EQD is frowned upon these days.
Which is bad, because it is the only site that features all the fanwork and brings it together, so artists and authors of the fandom rely on it to properly get the word about them out, especially new ones.
Oh, if only some competitor would rise to challenge Equestria Daily and take its place….. I think we really need this.

And the adult fanbase on top of that is probably 1/10 of the ACTUAL fanbase, I.E., the target audience.
Not to mention that the users who comment on an article on EQD only make up a tiny fraction of all the people who view the page.

I’d bet money regular visitors of ED are less than half of the fanbase. If you wish to get a more accurate understanding of bronies, you’ll need to talk to about ten million people worldwide. <3<
By close obversation in the more than three years I’m here now. Coming from someone who used to read all of the comments on new episodes on EQD from before, during and after the episode aired, and who then stopped during Season 5 when Applebloom, Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle got their cutie marks, because I couldn’t take all the negativity, badmouthing and outright, intentional lying about the show anymore and didn’t want this to ruin my fun with the show anymore.
I don’t know which places in the fandom you attend on a regular basis, but on EQD, it has become a huge culture and trend to pick on episodes for no reason and to make up things about them just to have a reason to pick and hate on them.
But since EQD is the main gathering place of the fandom and with how frequently it happens there, I doubt it will be much different at other places.
And even if there is a place where most bronies shower the show in praise and are fair to it and don’t make up crap about it to insult it, there is still barely any actual analyzing going on in the fandom.
It rarely happens that one of the so-called “analyzers” on YouTube takes on actual analyzing of the show and presents their results in a video.
Where are you getting that “fact” from? As someone who does think critically about the content of the show, I almost find that insulting. Although it might appear that way, most of the fandom doesn’t act like that. Those are only the most vocal of fans, and of course, they also tend to be the most fanatical. They do not represent the entirety of the fandom in any way.
Because it is. This fandom tends to interpret plotholes into the show where there aren’t any, all of which could be avoided by paying more attention and closely analyzing the events, because MLP: FiM is portraying a lot of things very subtle.
But most don’t do this, either because they are too lazy or can’t or simply don’t care enough for the show to do that (but then strangely care enough for it to do the effort of insulting it based on their misinterpretations). That’s why I said there is not much thinking in the fandom.
I was not insulting the fandom, but merely stating a fact.
I wasn’t reading into it, though. The very way you worded it seemed to give off that implication. You literally stated the that “the bar for thinking is set pretty low in this fandom”. In addition to being an unfair generalization, you seem to be suggesting that we are either to dumb or to lazy to think critically. If that’s not what you meant, then you should pay more close attention to word choice or not make generalizations like that to begin with.
To be fair, I have seen you take things too seriously in other comment sections, so you might be part of the problem.
