All I can hope is that these new writers respect continuity.
I dunno. I understand that freelance writers work on multiple shows at a time. I wonder how this came to pass; I personally suspect that the need to pay for the mortgage supersedes availability for a given show, so all the usual writers took jobs for other shows after the yearly MLP downtime.
It is unusual in that we have a mostly new crowd. I’m not sure if I agree with anything being “stripped down”. New blood could go really well, really badly, or more of the same.
I’m just quietly musing about the possible lack of Discord episodes. I honestly would love to see the discarded ideas for episode pitches. I wonder how many are thrown out vs. how many are accepted.
Now watch Discord shows up in every episode. :P
It’s not just the prospect of not seeing Discord in Season 7.
But this season seems to be the first season with a completely new writing staff, we don’t know much about. And from the sounds of tidbit information being shelled out, it’s feeling like this season has been skimmed down. We’re sailing into unknown waters here.
I guess I have some faith in the writing crew?
I really don’t see why they should, either. It’s entirely possible that various writers pitched a Discord episode (or several), but none of them worked well or were just plain unfunny. I’d rather they skip a season than to try to force a terrible concept. (YMMV)

He’s been in every season after three. Why shouldn’t he be in season 7?
It’s almost like they’re stripping down everything in the show this season. Even more suspicious on how little information we are getting for it.
He’s usually pretty honest in his Twitter feed.
While it’s fine to hope for the best, I’m not expecting Discord to make an appearance this season. I feel it’s better to be pleasantly surprised than disappointed. If Season 8 is a thing, however…
Sounds like Discord’s style of talk.
He already responded if he’s really not in S7. He said he isn’t sure and doesn’t keep up but you all should watch the show even if he isn’t there. For me it look like he really doesn’t know but is 80% sure he isn’t. Since last year he was very happy to announce new scripts while now he doesn’t rememeber any new script at all.
Wait a minute, is his response to “John de Lancie” or “Discord” in season 7? That could warrant a different response on his part.
I’d imagine DHX could potentially pile up lots of recorded lines that could be worked on later on before they need to bring him back in to record some more.
That’s the only explanation left. Perhpas McCarthy thought out Season 6 and Season 7 in advance and his role in both seasons at the same time before she left doing the movie.
So all the voice acting is done, it’s possible John de Lancie has a blurr of lines he has recorded for all of seasons so far and doesn’t remember what’s happening season 7. XD
Animators need to fit their expressions and mouth movement to the lines recorded by voice actors. Only actors who do the dubbing try to fit their lines to the animation pace. It’s very unlikely that John would still record any line 2 months before the series air.
They usually aren’t involved with the show in many other ways.

Omfg I didn’t even know that he does stand up comedy until I had Wikipedia open just now…
My god that word overused
Same. A lot of the humor seems forced/a lot of cringe-worthy moments from him trying to be good. I liked when he was just a villain.
