Thank whiners who reacted rabidly when Flash appeared for all of 0.02 seconds in one episode. I have a feeling that complain was so loud it actually reached Hasbro and put both Sunset and Flash on “do not touch” list that will likely never be updated due to staff regularly changing…
But the hatred towards Starlight seems to be persisting longer than those other ones.
Probably fueled by her lack of development and screen time in the show and the fact the fandom is understandably tired of seeing yet another “Twilight clone”. She is anything but Twilight.
Her half ass past story didn’t help either.

There’s a long history in this fandom of people losing it then suddenly loving it (crew changes, princesses, the baby, etc). That’s probably true of most fandoms though.
It’s hilarious to look back on how part of this fandom hated Sunset the same way they hate Starlight right now after the first EqG movie. I guess thanks to RR and the fact that Sunset’s redemption went beautifully, she became one of the fandom’s sweetheart.
I get the feeling a chunk of those people just want Sunset back in equestria instead of having Starlight. But it seems like Starlight is also going to get her EqG form based on the Minis that just revealed. While we still yet have to see Sunset’s human world counterpart, if she has one.
I remember the drama when she didn’t get wings in one of her forms in the camp movie. Or something like that. If she became the main character though, oh lordy lou.
I’m really shocked at how much Sunset shot up in popularity. Like everyone on here seems to adore her to death, and I don’t get it at all. I’m not judging, just really confused.
I don’t dislike either of them, but yeah they’re not the best characters ever. They have some interesting moments though. (When they’re not being overly woobie-fied.)
I remember some said they actually wanted Sunset Shimmer to replace Twilight as the main character of the show. Could you imagine the drama if that did happen? (Granted in “Rainbow Rocks,” they sort’ve got their wish.)

I don’t get the fuss over either of them, they’re too boring to be worth it.
At least someone gets this.
CMC, Cadance, and Luna will all have something to do with the movie, as evidenced by some toys and other related merchandise revealed this weekend.

Also, Starlight Glimmer > Sunset Shimmer.
just rechecked and yep, it is indeed fake. i didn’t realize that at the time. come to think of it, we haven’t heard much about how many non-mane six characters have speaking roles other than celestia. i remember a long while back somebody posited that the movie would mostly concentrate on the mane six and some new characters due to issues pertaining to actra and canadian labor laws and how wages are apportioned for film roles versus tv roles (or something like that). i think hasbro copyright issues might be a factor as well. i kinda figured that was why we weren’t hearing anything about peter new or any of the cmc actresses about voice roles in the movie. maybe they have brief cameos as opposed to major roles?
