I thought they did, but then again it’s been five seasons.  
In any case, his name alone - Blueblood - is a clear reference to nepotism. Not to mention his snobby, superior attitude and the fact that Rarity mentions she’d become a princess upon marrying him are all indicators that him being connected to royalty through blood means something for his status.  
This whole debate is really pointless, because there’s no way that Twilight is in line for the throne before Luna and there’s no way that Starlight, Sunset and the main 6 are in line before Blueblood. Ember and Discord being in the lineup completely seals that this list is stupid and makes no sense.  
I’ve talked about this way longer than I wanted. I’m actually going to unsub and do other things.  
It was so obvious from the very start that this image makes no sense on any level that I didn’t think anyone would take my comment and actually turn it into a serious debate. But I’ve noticed that this site is a lot like Facebook and people just love to pick apart everything you say.

Well, thing is, the “canon structure” we’ve seen was Celestia/Luna->Cadance->Twilight->tbd. Whatever is decided, though, I don’t for the life of me see how Ember came to the list.

Sorry if you don’t like it the “canon structure”. The Princess guards prefer to give confidence to Celestia apprentices than a “dork nephew”. The Equestrian citizens are agree with this system. Writing “retarded” an intention to explain how it works the “Equestria authority” cause you insist “BUT BLUEBLOOD IS THE TRUE INHERITOR!!! MONARCHY NO WORKS LIKE THAT!!! is very offensive. But thanks I want to discuss this topic. I don’t give a fuck if my theory would have been very accepted or not, like this case. I’ll continue to upload this kind of images.

I really don’t feel like turning this into a debate. There’s a lot of reasons why they could have taken that direction in the episode and there’s a big difference between being in charge for an afternoon and outright succession.  
Not to mention that I severely doubt the writers know how monarchies actually work and they’ve probably long since forgotten about Blueblood and the fact he’s the actual crown prince.  
Canonically, however, he is next in line right after Luna. This was explicitly stated.  
I’m done, because I honestly don’t care enough about this to talk about it any further. At least we can all agree this image is retarded.

I guess? Doesn’t change the canonical fact that when Celestia and Luna get captured by Hentai Tentacles, Cadence and Twilight were considered further up the line of succession than Blueblood. He wasn’t even mentioned!

If given the opportunity, I was give an excruciatingly detailed explanation of Equestria’s line of succession (or whatever Pony nation we end up getting, but I get the sneaking suspicion that every MLP show from now on will us Equestrian, or maybe Dream Valley, as their setting). Obviously, I’ll play it for laughs, but I will deliver all relevant information, and it will all be canon!

It depends on whether you want to use real life examples or not. In “reality” if both Celestia and Luna so happened to parish then it would actually be Blueblood without a doubt, seeing as he is already a crown prince and the only one with actual yet questionable blood ties. Then it would become kinda complicated as to weather Cadence would be next, but seeing as she is an adopted niece it would most likely go to whoever shared the most actual blood with Celestia/Luna,so my money is on the Tantabus since it is Luna’s spawn.

But Cadence and Shining both rule the Crystal Empire, so they do know a thing or two about ruling, and, in case of emergency, they can be considered a possibility.

To be completely honest it wouldn’t make a lick of difference, because Cadance was adopted and Shining married into royalty. Neither of them have a drop of royal blood that would make them eligible for the Equestrian throne before literally any schmuck that is even remotely related to Celestia in any way.

Equestria is specifically considered to be ruled by two equal princesses. In practice Celestia performs most of the functions we’d associate with ruling, but Luna’s status is formally equal of Celestia. She could be doing all the signing off on things, hearing petitioners etc., but doesn’t just as a matter of how the two divide the work to be done between themselves.

Not to mention Shining and Cadence are married, and thus share the duty of ruling, should the need arise.
