I dunno, I liked some of the two-parters, and at least they never really ended a season on a cliffhanger.
I kinda wish we’d get more adventure episodes on occasion, outside the two-parter season openers/finales. The “slice of life” ones are nice, but they make up pretty much 90% of the show.
Story structure wasn’t messed up.

I hope there are less two-parters. There’s a reason Best Night Ever is my favorite final.
Every show has episodes where the main cast take a back seat, and secondary characters are ran instead. Even high-profile shows like Star Trek have done it, including one episode of Next Generation titled “Lower Decks” where we see four or five minor characters, all but one we’ve never seen before, go about their day.
The show obviously wants to showcase Glimmer, so they’re putting her into some normally pretty plot-heavy slots (season opener/ender) and yes, it was a little weird that the opener wasn’t the traditional Mane 6 save Equestria and/or solve another huge crisis two-parter. But that doesn’t mean they’re writing them out.

They are already doing it with episodes like “Dungeons & Discords” [S6E17]; the S6 finale or the new episode “All Bottled Up” [S7E02].
The problem is how to device creative reasons for the mane six to not intervening on every single thing that is important and that happens to one of their friends . . .
Without resorting to:
a) send them far away for unexplored reasons (they avoided this partially on S7E02)
b) extremely bussy with a background monster fight [S5E09]
c) getting physically captured & unconcious [S6E25]
d) reduced into braindead zombies [S6E15]
… or something even more silly like accidentally becoming foals (although it could be an awesome episode for Flurry Heart and the Twin Cakes as protas once they reach the level of maturity of 5_years_old!SweetieBelle on “For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils” [S4E19]).

That would be lame. I like the Mane Six, but they are nearly used up at this point, and are “repeating” lessons. If they don’t shift characters, than the series will get stale.
That’s what’s known as brand suicide. They’d never do it. They even requested Faust make changes in preproduction to keep previous main characters in the show (this is why Firefly because Rainbow Dash and Surprise became Pinkie.)
They pulled that once. The original animated Transformers movie. In the first 15 minutes they brutally killed a quarter of the original cast so they could replace them. To say it did not go over well with parents and kids is an understatement.
They might bring new people in, but they’ll never replace the Mane 6.
I never heard of it, I just think that it’s time to shift to a less developed cast, and the movie would be a perfect time. I don’t want the Mane Six to go away, just pass the torch to the next generation.
Perhaps. The idea that they’d replace the main cast is just idiotic. Hasbro doesn’t pull crap like that anymore. They learned that from the original Transformers movie.
My guess is salt the first hoofful of S07 episodes feature supporting casts. <w<

Unless season 8 has a new main cast.
Looks like this prediction was wrong. With season 8 confirmed and in the works, it kills it.
