Let’s say you have an alternate pony universe centered around Daring Do, full of old adventure serial tropes. Let’s say, since Daring Do herself was originally a recolored Rainbow Dash expy, she has friends and foils who themselves are recolored expies of the rest of the Mane Six and other canon ponies.
 
Midnight Oil, the academic and librarian, a colleague of Daring’s at the University of Chicacolt. Totally unsuited to adventure, but prone to getting pulled into things. Kinda sorta secretly admires Daring.
 
Shimmerwing, princess of the Dragon Tribe of mountain-dwelling barbarian pegasi. Daring saved her life once and she thinks she owes a life debt. She’d totally be an Amazon warrior if she wasn’t so meek, but she’s got the dragon fire in her and woe betide those who draw it out.
 
Colonel Maplerum of the First Cavalry. Honest, forthright, hard working, humble, and terribly good at this whole soldiering thing. Often sent as an official agent into the wild lands where Daring goes exploring. Maple and Daring have saved each other’s lives more times than either likes, and the two have formed a kind of friendship.
 
There’s also Precious Jade, the exotic beauty and morally ambiguous jewel collector, and Inspector Coffee Bean, the dogged, unrelenting, and over-caffeinated Interpol agent.
