Paws Patrol NOIR
What’s next? A dark and edgy version of Arthur? Dora the Explorer? Johnny Bravo?
The was one episode where Dastardly decided not to cheat. He drove the whole race fairly but ended up losing anyway. He had stopped short of the finish line to give Muttley his autograph.
He’s run up such a huge tab at Pop Tate’s, Pop wants revenge for being forced to retire to stay afloat.
I don’t know either, I don’t really read Archie. (Except Sonic sometimes.) Jughead’s a pretty chill dude, couldn’t imagine why anyone would wanna kill him.
Possibly. I haven’t read it yet, but I heard it was Jughead.
I thought he took the bullet for that new Kevin Keller guy?
Ah, okay, that makes sense. I’m not familiar with that author (or really any author, for the most part), so I was thinking it could be a good comic based on only that the show was fun. It’ll be a shame if he and/or DC screws it up.
@Beau Skunky
Archie does die. I dunno about the individual issues, but in the sixth graphic novel of the “Married Life” series, Archie takes a bullet to save Jughead. The reboot series (NOT the Riverdale show) is written by Mark Waid, and it seems to be in the same spirit as the original comics. Jughead’s first appearance in the reboot is not a big surprise, but…it definitely had to be done the way it was after Archie’s death. :)
I’m the guy who made the earlier remark about ‘DC stoopid’, and in retrospect it was infantile of me. I apologize.
That said I am in no way whatever a fan of Ennis, and dread hearing that he got his hands on something I remember with fondness from my childhood. I expect the comic to be nonstop rants, mindless vulgarity, odious racist and ethnic stereotypes that would get anyone else burned at the metaphorical stake, and pornographic and pointless badly-done sex, with the excuse that it’s all being ‘ironic’.
But if you like the guy I hope you enjoy the comic.
They did; I didn’t read it, but there were a bunch of news stories a while back about how an older Archie died after taking a bullet for a friend or something like that.
@Background Pony #7F0B
I’m not up to speed on what that implies, why is DC stupid here? Without context, that sounds like it could be a fun comic.
Seriously, DC, y u so stoopid?
I’m sure the normal “Archie & Friends” comics and such still have a focus on humor. Plus Sonic & Megaman have some comic relief.
But yeah, Archie has some serious stories too. Didn’t they do one where Archie himself dies? (In a different canon granted, so the main Archie Andrews is still alive, but still…)
I didn’t think so, but with that dark-ish/edgy Archie TV series, I wasn’t sure if everything Archie-related was going in a serious direction now.
Are any of the Archie crossovers meant to be serious? Well, “Sonic meets Megaman” had some serious moments.
Oh, right, I’d forgotten about the Quest comic. Thanks, I’ll have to check that one out sometime.
@Ardashir
So, grim setting, likable reimagined characters, and good story? That sounds more like the sort of gritty reboot I could get behind. Plus, I enjoyed the last time Scooby Doo went semi-grim in Mystery Incorporated, so I could go for something like that again.
@Beau Skunky
Is “Archie vs. Predator” meant to be taken seriously? I sort of assumed it was kind of a joke.
Huh, I didn’t know that, but honestly I don’t know much about comics besides TMNT, Bone, & Sonic.
Actually? Space Ghost is involved with the Future Quest title, along with all the old Hanna-Barbera heroes. Like Mighty Mi-tor, Frankenstein Jr., the Impossibles, Birdman, Dino Boy, and Johnny Quest.
And there’s an independent Space Ghost title by DC too.
Though, I wouldn’t mind a darker modern Space Ghost comic. (Refering to the old ‘60s show, not the ‘90s satirical talk show, though I wouldn’t mind that coming back too, though it kinda lost it’s charm, when they started trying to make it more “adult” when “Adult Swim” first came out.)
It’s pretty grim Velma unleashes the apocalypse and turns 90% of humanity into monsters, and the gang blows them away left and right but there are some jokes here and there, and the writing is pretty clever. It’s actually pretty clever in spots.
I read it and what made it worse was that there was literally not one single remotely likeable character. It’s post-apocalypse, so you expect things to be grim – but when everyone is a scumbag, why should you care about any of them?
@Swashbucklist
Future Quest is great. It’s mature in all the actually good ways, and at the same time it remembers that these characters are supposed to be heroes. It and the Scooby Apocalypse titles are very well done.
The first issue of Future Quest was pretty exciting.
Does Hanna-Barbera even exist as a company anymore? I thought Cartoon Network bought them out a while back.
If we’re on the subject of bizarre Hanna-Barbera comics, though, does anyone know if Scooby Apocalypse was any good? That looked like it could be interesting, but if it went full grimdark too, I’m writing it off.
@Flying Pancake
Good Lord, I can’t believe the Hanna Barbara company allow it to be that effed-up. (Sadly, both Hanna & Barbara both passed away years back.)
Well that’s depressing, I guess I’m skipping that one. Seems like an obvious missed opportunity, too; you’d think that the absurdity of the whole concept would lend itself well to some kind of humor.
