Yeah… I’ve learned it’s probably best not to push it with anybody around here, least of all the community of site monitors (assistants included). This is a large community, but not as large as you think, word spreads fast about how some users (like me) act, and there’s dozens of eyes watching what you post who are just a button press away from knocking you out of commission for awhile. Suffice to say I’ve learned to watch my mouth quite a bit more than I used to.

Staff tags just indicate individuals who have volunteered to help with the site. The tags aren’t meant to “scare” people, and even admins are also end users of the site. The tag doesn’t make you some sort of god or something, and deleting comments or banning people is honestly the least of the work involved in helping with the site.
 
Can some assistants personally ban you or delete your comments without asking for help? Yes. Should that make you afraid? Of course not. Should you listen to their advice if they warn you that you’re breaking a rule? Yes, please. Deleting comments and banning people sucks.

Is anyone actually scared by the “site assistant” tag? I’m mildly more careful around mods, but the Site Assistants seem more to me like interns rather than people who have any kind of actual power. I remember on this one picture of Ember where Minus gave an idea for how to solve some tagging dispute that was completely and utterly ignored in the end… With good reason, his idea was overcomplicated if I remember correctly, but still…
 
Really, nothing has ever indicated to me that the Site Assistants can even do anything more than a regular user in terms of banning or reporting people or such; the mods clearly show themselves deleting comments and banning people when it makes sense, but the assistants never seem to do anything like that. Do you even have any powers of the sort?

Can you describe why you think men, and men alone, “easily become very confused about their gender, role, etc”?
 
Sorry if I’m not asking this properly … I might have been brought up in a considerably different environment than you, so some things that seem obvious to you aren’t obvious to me.

I disagree with a. I don’t think there’s evidence that crossdressing causes gender dysphoria. I might be wrong, and you’re happy to show me a connection, but I believe dysphoria exists independent of a person’s fashion preferences.
 
I love to crossdress and identify as genderfluid, but I don’t feel that crossdressing is turning me into a woman. My love of crossdressing has been with me since my teens, and it’ll never go away. It’s a part of me that exists regardless of my clothing choices, but it also drives me to enjoy dressing feminine. It’s not the other way around. I crossdress because I love being a female, but I didn’t become gender fluid because I started crossdressing. Instead, I discovered I was genderfluid and now happily accept it.

I have a funny sort of view of it…
 
a) Men who crossdress can easily become very confused about their gender, role, etc., and having an identity crisis and gender dysphoria are not fun at all, so it can cause a lot of pain.
 
b) But it’s not the dress itself that really does it, so much as it is the thoughts behind the action, and plenty of people can feel pretty and have fun, and not undermine their sense of identity or anything like that, in which case it’s not such a big deal.
 
But if men wearing dresses were half as common as girls wearing pants, then a) wouldn’t happen any more.

Yes, people need to get over men in skirts and dresses, and yes, this is an amazing picture.
 
I actually think the “No crossdressing” passage is in Deuteronomy (it’s one passage), but even then, some Christians think that it doesn’t apply anymore. In fact, I know devout Christian men that wear skirts and more that support it. Furthermore, I read somewhere that it may be a mistranslation or misunderstanding about gender roles in Jewish society and not a strict order about clothes.
 
Either way, God doesn’t care who wears what anymore. There’s no harm or evil in me wearing a dress or a woman wearing pants.

Well, we’re half way there. Women can wear pants and no one flips a table, but if a man wears a skirt all of a sudden its “Leviticus says no!” time.
 
We just need to get the second half of that fixed, and a part of that is reminding people who have problems with it that everyone doesn’t agree with them.

I think it’s more of people being scared of my staff tag. I was making a comment when I said I wanted to enjoy this without drama, not accusing anyone of drama or rule breaking. That might be my fault and I’ll make it more clear next time if I’m exerting any authority, but I’m not going to be the fun police because I have a shiny new tag and responsibilities. Just don’t break any rules. :)
 
I don’t mind an intelligent discussion about these issues honestly. The drama comes from people getting upset and having overblown reactions. It would be nice if a boy could wear a skirt and cheer and be happy and the only comments that are made are how he cute he looks, but we don’t live in such a fantasy world.
