One of my cats did live to be 19, but he was born before I was, and he died when I was still 12 or so. So I guess not.
But did you have one that lasted 14 long years? Let alone a cat who was in your life from childhood to adulthood?

We got Misty (our late family cat, and the same cat pictured in my profile avatar) when she was a kitten, and just before I started kindergarten. She lived a good 14 years, which meant she was a direct, living connection to my past. To top it off, she was a cat who didn’t mind sharing a bed with us, or being—carefully—held close while sleeping beneath the covers.
Having a soft, purring cat asleep next to me was always a soothing, healing experience…

I also grew up with cats all my life but I never had one last 14 years. A couple passed on or moving to a new place didn’t allow pets. =(
But I’ve got my not-the-sharpest-tool-in-the-shed Ragdoll snoozing next to me. All is well. =3

On the other hand, perhaps I have an unfair advantage here: I grew up with a family cat, who spent 14 long years with us. Consequently, by the time this sort of cuteness showed up, I was already acclimated for a while.
