Head phones didn’t exist back then. Where did she get those?
Well if they’re electric they’d be a bit of an anachronism, since those weren’t invented until a good 50 years after A Christmas Carol came out in 1843, but then the cylinder phonograph itself wasn’t invented until 1877 so it’s doubly out of place. I have to admit though, when I first saw this, I thought it actually looked like the the earpieces of a stethoscope. Considering that one of the first binaural stethoscopes with flexible tubing was invented in 1852 by George Cammann, it’s not inconceivable to think a rudimentary type of headphone could have existed at the same time as the player did.

Still, this is pony technology. Who knows what their 1800-1900 equivalent was like, technologically speaking.

From the way it’s worn, it looks like she’s wearing an old fashioned stethoscope as makeshift headphones… honestly, a rather ingenious solution since a wax cylinder player would be entirely acoustical and have no electrical sound amplification.
