Starlight Glimmer is awesome in some episodes like the one today. I think the writers are trying to write her the way they would write Twilight if they hadn’t made her boring.

Yes, only that. Giving her credit for maintaining the friendship is giving her too much credit. You might as well say every time she bothers showing up in an episode is a triumph for her. Stuff like that is why I think Fluttershy is overrated. Every little thing she does is treated like the single greatest thing to happen in the show. She can literally do something any of the other characters could have done and it is treated as being that much better just because Fluttershy did it.
 
Consider this: Twilight devised the plan to get Fluttershy into the Equalists, and basically outmaneuvered Starlight Glimmer in a game of wit, beating her at her own game. Fluttershy played a role and deserves credit to that extent, sure, but the entire plan was Twilight’s. Some people don’t even seem to acknowledge that.
 
Funny you should bring up devaluing Fluttershy’s role in that event because you sort of did the same to Dash. Dash plays a regularly more active role and gets more done in the span of the series than Fluttershy. When there’s trouble about, you won’t find her hiding or running away. When there’s a monster attack, she’s always ready to kick it in the nose. When there’s a competition, you can expect to see her take part if she can help it. Fluttershy’s achievements only shine more because they’re so few and far between, as compared to Dash where you just generally expect her to do well.

Not only this. She maintained a friendship with him the entire fourth season. And she’s the only reason why he did not return to chaos all the time in his own words. This is not the fault of Fluttershy that he was so weak-willed in a situation with Tirek. She was not even there and she not decided to send on this mission Discord.
 

So what? This reduces the value of what she did? Even so, she has done more than anyone else.
 

Fluttershy wines that she communicates well with animals, you say? Maybe it happened because of the smartest Twilight plan?

Fluttershy stopped Discord from returning to chaos once. When Tirek appeared he returned fully. Fluttershy didn’t change his mind, he went back out of personal guilt. The only thing Fluttershy has done was win Discord’s friendship, and everything else piggybacks off of that. As for her revealing Glimmer’s plan, that was part of the Mane 6’s plan. There’s no real reason they couldn’t have sent somepony else. Fluttershy didn’t even want to get involved with that one.

Actually, if it weren’t for Fluttershy they probably wouldn’t have gone up the mountain to begin with. The entire purpose was to get Fluttershy to ask the dragon to leave, but she was too fearful to do anything. Her friends almost died because of her, so it’s hard to give her too much credit for ponying up and doing what she was there to do to begin with.

Rainbow Dash is the reason Equestria isn’t a war torn wasteland, and it was because of her standing up for Fluttershy’s useless flank.
 
And don’t try to tell me that Fluttershy is the one responsible just because her being bullied is what provoked Rainbow Dash to do it. It could’ve been anypony that was being bullied that could’ve provoked her, But Rainbow Dash is the only one talented enough to do what she did.
