Description

High Commander Tier Blackbane to be exact (although ‘Blackbane’ may change, it was just a placeholder for him years ago), just one of a few high commanders directly under the Emperor, and also happens to be the father of Celsus (pronounced sell-sus). White coat, deep black mane.

Plus a look at his face weapon, the equines answer to the common sword. (someone give me a better name than ‘Face-Weapon’ please…)

High Commander = his rank
Tier = his name
Blackbane = his given title (’cause he did some badass stuff I guess)

If you want to get a taste (albeit a very small one) of what my webcomic is going to be all about then hop on over to fimfiction where I’ve written up a small and very unrevealing fic on the first few pages of the eventual comic: http://www.fimfiction.net/story/230538/honing-equestria

Thanks for all the info I appreciate your input, gave me a bit to think about, I’ll be sure to check out that youtube channel you linked and hopefully it’ll spark some ideas. My headcanon is more realistic in terms of hoof use though, so I’m trying to avoid any weapon that would be wielded that way (minus some heavy horseshoes for stomping). Right now I have a couple of weapons that I plan to implement into the story: side strapped spears (collapsible [telescoped] pilums to be exact with mouth grips for spring-loaded release and “sheathing”, at least for the pegasi), and again heavy horseshoes, as well as some mouth held knives/pugios (but with a wider pommel so it stays in the mouth better, again for the pegasi. If you look in my uploads at the “Spira” picture you can see what I mean. I’m trying to go for more of a light roman-esque influence with the pegasus army), and of course the mouth held “puncher” like in the picture above (still don’t have a name for them yet), also some more armour related horn pieces for charging (attached to the helmet of the unicorn cavalry along with their side spears). And one of the bigger weapon elements story-wise: the incendiaries used by the pegasi “Cinders” (the nickname for the members of their air support), who use a pretty basic bag with a pull cord that releases the bottom dropping the incendiaries with a detonation on impact (haven’t decided on the logistics of this yet given the medieval setting, but perhaps two separate glass vials in a breakable [ceramic?] shell that shatters and mixes on impact = explosion/fire/whatever other potions they can concoct).

I’ve been going back and forth about adding bows, but they would have to be purely magic wielded unlike in the show (because that still assumes the use of phantom fingers. Or I guess archers could have a special type of hoof “holster” that keeps the bow in place and a sort of “bite tab” on the string for pulling. But that would be kind of inconsistent with my headcanon since hooves are made purely for walking, and the occasional skull crushing/ buck). BUT it would make sense if they were predominately unicorn weapons (hence only usable via magic) as a way to combat the purely pegasus cinders (each side has their advantage).

Although, and I’m kind of using this comment to brainstorm now, I’ve also considered that perhaps hand-held weapons /would/ exist in a hooved world in the hands (claws) of griffons (who, in the story, work almost entirely as mercenaries, i.e. not a very united race. There also aren’t as many of them by any means so most ponies don’t see much of them. I have a cultural situation for every race btw. But I don’t want to give too much information away so I can’t really go into all of that just yet).

Hooves with metal boots on already work like maces/warhammers (and even horseshoes alone - these and that especially). If one wants to cut somebody, then one needs longer blades, preferably curved ones - like swords and sabers. They may be hoof or mouth (example, example) handled, latched to a leg or operated via magic - it doesn’t really matter if the solution provides some agility in use. And Frankly, depends on your headcanon on what ponies are capable of doing with their restricting anatomy.

Spears or lances could be attached to pony’s side for charges.
Bows can be used without magic, as shown in the show

And going back to analyzing your weapon based on design - it’s a charging knife, optionally a stabbing blade or something purely additional to main weapon held in/latched to hooves or operated by magic. It potentially parry blows directed to a muzzle, but after a few blocks like that blade would be totally ruined.

But this doesn’t mean that you couldn’t attach something else to a sturdy mouth handle. Morning star on a chain? Longer blade?
I’ll leave this to you. Also, if you want to take a closer look at what works or doesn’t and why in weapon designing, check this guy’s youtube channel.

Cheers from Poland.

Hm that’s true, didn’t think of that. Well I have been mulling over some magic wielded weapon concepts so I guess this could work as more of a side-arm, at least for higher ranking unicorns. I just don’t want it to be a generic looking sword, seeing as how that sort of design really wouldn’t make much sense in a world governed by the hooved.
I’ll have to give it some more thought, and I’ll upload what I come up with.

Cool weapon concept. Terrible for commanders, though, since their orders should be understandable for others, and this piece of steel would successfully prevent it.

Interesting, but you may want to tag your image a bit better. Like put oc:tier blackmane as the oc tag for example.
