I can think of two reasons why they didn’t have to stoop so low

Sex toys, lots and lots of sex toys
Passive sex, they don’t need to get attached, just screw
They can turn others into alicorns, did it ever occur to them that if they fall in love with a mortal they could turn them into an alicorn
