I’m pretty sure at one point that existed. I remember getting a pilot kill on a B-25 and it kept flying. May have been the co-pilot. Seemed fishy, I thought it was hacks at first or something. Was like in 1.31.

Most bombers had this thing called a goddamn copilot. If the first pilot gets knocked out you still have his mate already on top of the controls if not already seated at his own set.

Well actually there is kinda something like that in game already, planes with co-pilots can still fy if one is shot dead. However what I’m NOT happy with is the new Lost Control Mechanic. Not because of what it is, I mean, it’s great for sim and realistic but…. In Arcade? I mean… WHY? Leave the realism for a gamemode titled for it, the blackish screen was enough for Arcade.
 
However I completely agree with the whole B17 problem, it’s too inconsistent, I mean, sure, sometimes I can survive a ton of damage in it but mostly I get shot down by a single round. And don’t even get me started on the RAF bombers, the bloody Stirling would be disintegrated by a Airsoft gun thanks to Gaijin! Yet small, rushed light fighters like I-16s and Yaks can survive torment even from other planes of the same type if not worse!

That was one of the things that convinced me to stop playing. The B-17 is famous for its ability to soak up huge amounts of damage and still make it home on one engine. Gaijin say that was just American propaganda, and so the in game model goes up like a petrol soaked rag with balsa wood wings.
 
 
One thing I’d like to see implemented with the bombers is that the pilot knocked out critical no longer means an instant kill for the other player. Have all flight control cease for a few seconds while another crew member takes their place in the cockpit, much like how it works with the tank crews.

I know your pain mate, it always seems that you can put the world’s stockpile of ammunition into one plane yet only one round of his tears your plane apart, sets it on fire, immobilizes it, sometimes all at once!

I think my last straw was when I got to the B-17 and still couldn’t take more than a scratch without falling in half. Meanwhile, my guns take belts of anything to kill fighters.

Yup! Now though there is nothing but Spawn camping in Arcade and FWs with Yaks in Realistic. Seriously! Had to shoot down a P51D-5 and a J2M3 right off the bat in a B17, barely got out alive but was then instaly dived on by a Yak at 5Km up

They never could decide on a gun like the Yanks settled on the M2 Browning and the Brits stuck Hispanos on everything.  
And weren’t alone in taking a while to notice .30s where ineffective.

It’s the A-8 variant with 2 13mm MGs, and only 2 20mm CNNs on the wing to make room for the wing-mounted pods, which are an additional 4 20mm CNNs.

By the point in the war when the fw-190 was starting to enter service in combat, the luftwaffe were realizing that the standard 7.92mm machine guns weren’t holding all that well against the american planes, which came equipped with 12.7mm guns. So later variants of the fw-190 were adjusted to include 13mm machine guns in the nose and more 20mm, followed by 30mm cannons under the wings.
