A deep tissue massage is far better for that as it is a more accurate and pinpoint massage rather than this one. This one is for someone who is active and is going to continue being active after the massage. This massage pretty much gets the superficial knots out but won’t be deep. She would want a deep tissue as her job probably deals with a high amount of stress and long bouts of inactivity, like you said. We also don’t know how long she is being massaged for though. Rainbow Dash, Spitfire or anyone else who is a die hard athlete would benefit from this. Rarity, along with Applejack, Twilight Sparkle, and anyone who has a physically demanding or stressful jobs would benefit more from a deep tissue. The rapid fire hits from the massage shown though reawaken the muscles and pretty much makes them loosen themselves. It is better for athletes because they usually use the same muscles for their activities.

Couldn’t Rarity possibly get rather tense and tight from standing in one position too long? I mean, if she’s doing fine work or drawing for long periods, perhaps it might help to keep a muscle from seizing up simply from keeping still for long periods.

SO I looked it up and rarity’s massage is a massage often utilized for athletes. It serves no purpose for people who aren’t active. That type of massage is supposed to loosen your muscles quickly and increases the bodies ability to loosen said muscles. Then again this is probably just easier to animate than a deep tissue massage.

This and >>1055402 comprise one of the best set-up scenes for an episode in the show. It really brings across the point that Fluttershy and Rarity are very different ponies when it comes to physical contact. Fluttershy wants only the minimal amount of it, gently done, while Rarity enjoys practically getting mauled. It lampshades the rest of the episode where Fluttershy is freaking out over how much attention she’s receiving as a model, and Rarity is eaten up with jealousy over not being on the receiving end of it instead.
