That’s not entirely true. People always seek to get the best out of their matches, even if what they define as “best” is usually what differs and involves factors such as how much they actually care about the characters involved. In the instances of lazy matches, the usual suspects are adhering to stereotypes, not being able to come up with a better match, or simply not caring enough to be bothered to.
Such is my understanding, anyway.
That sort of thing is…not fun for a lot of people. I’m not saying that’s right or wrong. That’s just the way it is.
No one’s talking about TF2 here, though I won’t pretend I wasn’t considering it.
Some people may not need other reason, but that doesn’t mean those reasons are particularly good, it means those people settled for something that required the absolute bare minimum in terms of thought rather than step back and say ‘what can I do to really do these characters justice?’
