Maybe, he did come off as quite blunt. Friendship Games does seem to me to be like a huge project that was rushed at the last minute.  
The official website said that Sunny Flare was a snitch (which gave me the idea that she would consistently be telling tales to Cinch) and Lemon Zest was described as a drill seargant and I DEFINITELY didn’t see her acting like that in the movie. Also, the Shadowbolts in the toy art barely look anything like the characters in the film.

Yeah, that would have been a fun twist.
 
It’s interesting he dismissed the idea immediately, usually they’re more hesitant with these things. Maybe they had more of a backstory planned out than anything we saw in the movie.
